Hiya,
We're booked with Skiworld who are using City Flyer as the carrier out of Gatwick. Skiworld are telling me that there is no available option for ski carraige...it's all sold out, but take the ski bag to the airport and arrange it at the time of check in.
Now I have never heard of this before but apparently it's quite common. Has anyone done this before or heard of it before? Am I needlessly panicking, should I be worried?
Our flight is at oh my god it's early o'clock and I just won't have time to go back to the long stay carpark to stick them back in the motor if they say no. I really, really don't want to hire and I'm not sure I'll get everything in under the one hold bag weight allowance anyway.
One disadvantage of booking late I suppose but we did save a huge amount.

It's normal for some airlines to allow for oversize bag as your checkin luggage e.g. BA as long as it's under the weight and oversize limits.
Call the airline to check that they allow that?
Ah, just noticed the City Flyer is a BA brand, so that could be ok. You may need to phone first to let them know you're replacing your checkin bag with a sports equiptment bag.

If you are going down the night before and flying out the next day with BA from Gatwick before 1300, you can check your bags in between 1800 and 2100 the night before.
Then you get to find out the night before if its yes or no.

@luanb, Well I've looked on the cityflyer website now and it is saying I can't book oversize sports equipment carriage. Now I'm really worried.
I'm not replacing the hold bag with the ski bag, I want both because everything comes in over 23kgs.
@ster, I live 1/2 hr's drive away from the airport.

p.s. Are you sure you're flying from Gatwick? From my quick search, Cityflyer don't fly from there.

Ah! Are you sure it's not Euroflyer?
BA Euroflyer
is the British Airways subsidiary operating short-haul flights from London Gatwick (LGW) as of 2022, designed to compete with low-cost carriers. It acts as a separate entity from BA CityFlyer (which operates from London City Airport) but provides similar, refreshed services on Airbus A320 aircraft.

Then perfect to nip over the night before to drop the bags off rather than get a nasty shock the morning of the flight.

@ster, do you know if every menber of the party has to do this at the same time, or can I just do it on my own and leave my mate to check in in the morning?

@gixxerniknik, see the BA website for exact terms.
Broadly
- you need to have checked in on line (but can do that on the app at the desk)
- bags have to be on the same booking
- one of the passengers on that booking must attend (I take it to be the one who made the booking) the others dont need to be there but you MUST have yours and all their travel docs. This is the bit the desk jockeys usually don’t know and say all passengers need to be there in person but wave the webpage at them and they check with their supervisor.
- I think all bags to be checked in must be dropped off at the same time, you cannot then check in an extra bag in the morning in the same booking.
You cannot check in bags for a booking you are not on, for obvious reasons.

@ster, Thank-you!
The website is vague, the online help isn't, at least until tomorrow sometime which is when I'll try that method, and teh phone numbers just say come back to within 24 hours of the flight because for obvious reasons theyare pretty busy.

@ster, It doesn't say if everyone in the group has to drop off at the same time. So I presume that I can drop mine off but my mate can leave it until the morning. That's what I meant.
And it really doesn't say about checking in then, or adding bags. I can check in online 24hrs prior to departurefor sure.
I'll give them a bell tomorrow again, or try the online help.
