Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lift pass prices - any smaller resort recommendations for easter 2027

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All,

Hit me with your budget lift pass options for easter 2027. Driving from Cherbourg, hoping to organise a trip for two families, one with 4 kids and all complete beginners. Looked at Samoens but the lift pass prices of €350 odd adds up quick smart for 4 kids. Especially when they are all total beginners. Anywhere within about 15 hours of driving from Cherbourg. I guess I'm looking for reference prices from recent experience as it takes a long time to trawl the websites to find the pass prices. Bonus points for any suggestions where they do late season deals or free kids places etc!

For reference - last week a six day pass in Prato Nevoso in Italy was €225 for an adult and €175 for a junior. Not really a suitable option for easter I would imagine, but that's the sort of budget i would be hoping for. may not be realistic for easter though, or france in General

Usually we can find decent self catering options once a location is identified, but finding it very time consuming to figure out a general area first.

Thanks a million

depending on the age of the kids - worth looking at the resort for offers.
Example - Valloire has a free child pass for every adult during easter week

Children's Mountain Offer: Get a free child's pass (up to 12 years old) with the purchase of an adult pass when you order online (until March 31st inclusive) for a 6 or 7-day pass for the week of April 4th to 10th, 2026.

Valfrejus which is pretty much all motorway driving from Cherbourg has on offer on this year so probably repeated each year…adults @€225 and children born up to 2013 @€187.50, or a bit further up the valley at Val Cenis adults are €198 and under 12’s €131 for 6 day passes…The Haute Maurienne Valley passes mentioned above also give you the option of trying another resort in the valley for a day such as La Norma or Bonneval Sur Arc

Small resorts in Aosta Valley have a €100 for 6 days adult pass this year. Kids under 8 free with adults, older kids 9 to 16 is €80.

You can only use it maximum of 3 days in any one resort, but maybe you could find a central base near Aosta to hit a few resorts or stay in one resort and move midweek to another?

They are small ski areas and I'm not sure if Easter falls beyond their closing dates, so not sure if it will work for you, but more details of this season's offer here...

This might be helpful when comparing resorts. You can order the resorts by day ticket price from cheapest to dearest by toggling the price ^ heading and scan across to see the km on offer.

https://www.bergfex.com/italien/

I think you'll find that the Mondole ski areas Prato Nevoso/Artesina will take some beating in the km per € of lift pass price comparisons.

You can switch to France or Austria too.

Your biggest issue will be finding a place with cheap lift tickets AND reliable decent snow at Easter.

Easter 2027 is early so you will presumably be going 27th March.

We went to La Norma at Easter many years ago. Cheap as chips. And held up pretty well in late season conditions.

Portes Du Soleil has big discounts for Easter lift passes: a 6 day pass for family of 4 (2 adults + 2 x kids under 11) costs Euro586 (reduced from 1026).

Avoriaz will be your best bet as a base given the surrounding resorts are lower level.

Silvretta Montafon would be in range and seems to offer free child pass for under 18s if you fancy Austria.
No idea about accommodation.

Thanks all - great ideas there - digging a bit deeper into Val Cenis at the moment, and La Norma.

Any other suggestions keep them coming.

Budget? Isola 2000 & Auron in the Maritime Alps offer up to 50% discounted skipasses every Tuesday from 8pm, the discount going to 40% then 30%, etc. I think it's 63€ for a 3 day mid week pass, 100€ 5 day Mon-Fri only, & 125€ for a full 7 day pass. When the discounts start in December it's pre-Christmas tickets only, the full season opens up for selection week 2 or 3 but it's definitely before Christmas.

Relatively small compared to some of the above, each claim over 100km piste but you could split a week between the two as there's a potential public bus connection.

Flights are out of Nice and there are public buses to each station 3€ each way or 10€ for the dedicated ski bus. Isola has brutalist architecture so it has cheaper accomodation, Auron is a lovely little village but pricier. Not aware of anything that might approach these stations for money value but you might expect ops to aged & relatively slow.

My skipass for Grand Massif this year was 296€, which i booked early bird and is excellent value. I was in Flaine (brutalist....sensing a pattern here?) last year in March as well & there was slush in the afternoons at the base but beyond that everything was open. It was foggy one day. The villages offer nicer aesthetic & ambience if that's preferred but less snow sure for that time of year.

Regardless. I would recommend scouting out the snow histories of prospects on the likes of skiresort info. That late in the season would be a slush fest at most budget stations you'd imagine. Once you've got it narrowed down I'd post back here looking for previous experience for exactly when & where.

Val Cenis, Bonneval and Valfrejus are brilliant value. And all hold their snow really well because VC and Valfrejus are north-facing, and Bonneval is high. La Norma good too - just avoid Aussois, as it south-facing. Relatively long drive from the UK though. Valtournenche/ Cervinia isn't a lot further, and has the benefit of reliable snow, great beginner pass offers, and if you go the second week of Easter, usually 30% off the lift passes if you book with partner accommodation. There are some good-value options.

@oink, I would also recommend Ski Amade. The "Kids ski free" offer starts mid-march and includes kids who are direct family members up to the age of 18. So for 4 kids that's a potential saving of €800 based on this year's prices. It's why we started coming here 16 years ago. The same deal may NOT be applicable if you book one of those lift pass included options like Sunweb. If you need help with finding self-catering options then PM after Easter.

@oink, do the Sunweb thing - we've done it previous two Easters (going again this year) and we've not paid more than £525pp as a group of two families of four in nice chalets in L2A and Oz Station. This year is the most expensive - £525 for the CGH White pearl in La Plagne. Those prices are inclusive of lift passes (but don't include equipment) so represent pretty good value when you consider lift passes are £250pp+ most places.

Sunweb is nothing special really.

7 of us going to Les Menuires for £472pp - accommodation and 7-day lift pass using resort immo.

But it is a one stop shop with lots of options so I am not dissing it.

Had a root around the website and yes, that's a great offer. Though up to 15 is free. Still makes a very good saving potentially seeing as next year we will have 3 of the 7 kids falling outside that only.
