Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

My first time skiing at Glenshee in over a decade today. The weather forecast was looking great when when I booked the lift passes (£38pp) a few days ago, but unfortunately things changed and we ended up with a very windy day with the chairs and more exposed drags staying shut. Mostly overcast with variable visibility and some light snow showers, freezing level below the car park. There's loads of snow in most places, though sometimes stripped down to hardpack by the wind with deeper drifts on NW aspects. Queues were mostly small except on Sunnyside (up to ~15 mins at times) and the Plastic poma (even longer) due to it being too windy for the Baddoch chair.

We hired skis / boots from Glenshee Ski Hire at Blacklunans, halfway between Bridge of Cally and Spittal of Glenshee. £21pp, service was swift, no queue, equipment was OK, opens at 8am.

Started out on the east side of the road using the Sunnyside pomas.

Over the back, Tom Dearg and Cluny were running, plus Beag in the middle valley. Too windy for Caenlochan, and Tom Dearg / Cluny / Beag all shut later on as the wind increased.

Then over the road to the Cairnwell side.

Cairnwell runs and T-bar had a crosswind, mostly quite nice skiing though. Food in the cafe was decent despite a long queue to order it - basic pies available, but also a couple of pasta / chicken dishes with chips and salad (~£10), and big cakes. I wish people wouldn't take a table before ordering food when the queue is this long; it means the tables all end up full with people not actually eating.

Butcharts drag was a nice ride up with the wind behind, but was grim when you had to turn round at the top and ski down back into it...

Overall, somewhat type 2 fun due to the wind which was ferocious at times. I wish I'd gone last Saturday instead! Everyone seemed to be making the most of it though, and the ski centre seems well-run at the moment - parking very organised, lifties making sure everyone was doubling up for T-bars, no queue for lift pass collection, and lift issues appearing to be fixed very quickly with the near-instant arrival of repair teams on skidoos. I hope the season continues for a while yet.
