Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Quickest Ski Route Arabba to Seceda run ?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Morning All - we're in Arabba at the moment, and would like to do the Seceda run down to Ortisei. Is this doable there and back in a day? We're good skiers with pretty good stamina. I can't quite figure out which is the quickest sella ronda route to get there from where we are - green or orange.I'm guessing orange. and then does that change for the way back? also, once we get to the selva area, to access the lfts up to Seceda (Pramulin?) it looks like we need to get the underground funicular (so says AI, anyway). Does that make sense or it is a hallucination? . Last question (apologies)... if it all goes wrong and we mess up on the timings to get home, waht's the taxi situation like fom Ortisei/ Selva to get back to Arabba? Cost and distance aside, are we likely to be able to find one at the last minute to take 3 people and their ski gear??All thoughts welcome. We'd be thinking of doing this tomorrow on an early start,weather-permitting. Cheers.

Sella Ronda Orange. Take the Porta Vescovo Gondola out of Arabba, out of the Arabba Valley, ski the Belvedere bowl, up onto Passo Sella. Ski to Piz Seteur 4 man chair. Here's were you could go wrong. You need to be at the top of Ciampinoi. Without skiing into Selva town, or just ski into Selva and get onto the Ciampinoi Gondola. I'm going to leave that up to you and your piste map reading skills. Madeye-Smiley Out of the back of Ciampinoi (Top section of the World famous Sasslong run). 2km in take the Sasslong B right turn (Beautiful and less busy). You'll drop out at the bottom of the Sasslong course. Take the underground Funicular. Exit Col Raiser, jump on the Gondola, Exit Seceda. Push through the trees and take the 4 man Seceda chair. You've arrived. Madeye-Smiley

Yes, should be doable providing there aren't crazy queues, you don't stop too long or have inexperienced skiers with you. It's Sella Ronda plus a diversion, so an early start is advisable. Starting out Orange is probably slightly quicker. You have to do an Orange alternative to get to Ciampinoi...

After the long flat blue past Passo Sella, take Sole chair up to Piz Seteur, then off the back drop to Comici 1 & 2 chairs to Piz Sella, drop off the short black and hook right to Piza Pranseies chair, up there to Ciampinoi.

(EDIT: Another option as @Mollerski's crossed post says is to carry down the valley run into Selva and get the Ciampinoi gondola up.)

From Ciampinoi you take the mens downhill Saslong to the underground funicular, then it's the Col Raiser gondola and Fermeda chair up to Seceda.

From there, you ski down the shoulder of the mountain, keeping right down La Longia towards Ortisei.

You can return on the cablecar (this can have queues at busy times) to Seceda or ski further to the edge of Ortisei and get the Furnes gondola, then cablecar.

Return the way you came, ski down to underground, and up to Ciampinoi.

Then you have a choice, back retracing route on Green, or carry on Orange via Corvara.

You'll be able to gauge how you're doing time-wise, by seeing how long it takes to get to Seceda...2-2.5hr, so you're there about 11am, you have time to drop to Ortisei and back up into Seceda bowl (Daniel Hutte, or cut across the track to the left across to the Troier Hutte) for lunch, then 2-2.5hr back to Arabba.

I must admit when I have done the A and the B back to back the A almost always has better snow on it and has rarely been particularly busy also a world famous course and gets a bit more sun, if I was choosing one that is the way I would go.

The key sticking point is likely to be the cable car back up to Seceda. When we were there 2 weeks ago, it took us at least 45 mins to get from Ortisei up to Seceda (we walked straight onto the gondola at the bottom of La Longia, arrived at the cable car 10 mins later and then queued for 25 mins to get on). So I'd be tempted not to have lunch until after you've cleared that cable car.

On La Longia, make sure to pop in and see my pal Werner in the Curona Hutte. The views are worldclass and the steaks from stock reared on his own farm are also worldclass. wink

Thanks so much all as ever, so helpful. Just back from a great day on the pistes, hence no reply till now. We’ll aim for this tomorrow weather -permitting. Does anyone have any thoughts on the taxi situation in case of an emergency Plan B situation?
