Not sure where the best place for this question is:
I need to buy a rucksack for carrying my ski boards on board an Easy Jet flight. I'm not keen on the shaped boot bags that have shoulder straps and would much prefer to shove whatever I have on my back. Any suggestions? I do have a 30L Patagonia that would technically do the job - I could measure it to make sure it'll fit in the size requirements, but it doesn't have an internal velcro strap to keep the boots in place.

I’d just stick with the Patagonia.
But FWIW I did a lot of research on this topic recently and ended up with a 40L Stubble and Co kit bag. Fits my boots (mp 2 , helmet (XXL) comfortably and can bulk it out with clothes.
Not sure why you need internal straps.

Knowing how the low cost carriers can be sniffy I'd start with getting the dimensions allowed then plug those into google.
So easyjet says size for the larger cabin bag (not the underseat one) is Maximum 56 x 45 x 25 cm. A quick google for rucksacks that size chucks out a few options including this:

I've got a suitcase which is either wheely or a rucksack and fits in the smaller easyjet allowance (and has been tested in their gauge) with my boots in...but I forget where I got it. Also depends on the boots, my dad's won't fit at all.
I did a lot of research to try and find a box/flightcase which is exactly the size of the easyjet dimensions but seems no one makes one, it's either too narrow, too thin or just too big.

Personally I'd go with a Patagonia / north face duffel which fits in the size requirements. Any options with more structure to the bag are just restricting your internal volume.

I have that one, and their under-seat sized wheeled one too (which is also the max EJ dimensions) - decent quality, albeit lightweight so the handles won’t last forever (but priced accordingly). My wife’s 25 boots fit in that smaller size, but no chance for my 29s.
I was somewhat nervous using it it the first time for PiPAU5 as it feels huge, but tested it at the airport, and it does indeed fit inside the luggage sizing thing. Just have to watch out as the sides are soft, so easy to overpack. Given I heard the EJ staff get a bounty on catching you out on over-sized luggage I assumed I would get challenged, but no-one batted an eyelid.
(If you’re looking for something cheap and cheerful, their canvas type hold-all bags with an shoulder strap are only £10-15, or they do a ruck sack type one for £30).

I spent a lot of time last year looking for something similar. I’ve settled on this https://www.snokart.com/products/zoom-pack instead of the Kabin Boot bag (suggested above) mainly due to weight of the wheeler. For me I normally travel with a sportube and a suitcase so I don’t have another arm to ever drag the Kabin Boot bag. As a back pack it’s too heavy so I opted for the zoom pack instead. If you would only occasionally wear it as a back pack then Kabin Boot bag is probably a solid choice.

I use that (in the previous, less lurid, but still really bright colour scheme). Takes up little space, can go under seat or will stand upright in an overhead bin on an A320. I'll use it as rucksack, shoulder bag or "briefcase" at different times in a trip. I can (just) fit a pair of boots with a 313mm sole, Hestra gloves, (spare) goggles, socks and everything else I need on the slopes bar a layer for warmth maybe. I put my ski trousers in the pocket for the rucksack straps.
If baggage is lost/delayed (fortunately never happened skiing) I only need skis, poles and a helmet to get started.

Another vote for the North Face Base Camp duffle in size small. Bomb proof and can shaped to fit in the luggage testers.

I explored both the Kabin Boot Bag and the Zoom Pack. I liked the idea of the Zoom Pack, but as it houses the boots in the more traditional side by side position the bag’s depth when being used for boots falls outside many airline cabin bag dimensions. What’s been your experience taking it as cabin luggage?

@SaraWelsh, similar to JtL above, I have an Aerolite hard shell case with 2 wheels...surely better to wheel a light case than carrying 8-10kg on your back??
Ryanair bag dimensions are even tighter than Easyjet, but still works for me.
https://aeroliteluggage.co.uk/collections/ryanair-approved-hand-luggage-aerolite/products/aerolite-55x40x20-40x20x25-ryanair-maximum-allowance-2-piece-carry-on-hand-cabin-luggage-set-bundle-55x40x20-suitcase-40x20x25-holdall-1
I get my boots in end to end, stuffed with normal socks, then ski socks, then spare underwear. I wedge all my rolled up base layers and spare t-shirts around the boots, fleece layer on top in the lid compartment, no need to strap the boots down they're not shifting!! The salopettes go rolled tight in underseat bag with helmet with gloves and goggles inside. Underseat bag sits on top of case with straps around the extending handles when wheeling through airport.
I make do with these two cabin bags and carry my ski jacket underarm with spare waterproof shell jacket tucked inside it, various plugs, chargers, cables power banks in pockets. Wearing one pair of smart walking boots that are my only footwear and one pair of smart denims and jumper that I can use in evenings in resort with changes of t-shirt to keep it fresh.
One thing I don't get is lost luggage or have to wait for baggage reclaim!!
The only time my cunning plan went wrong is when I left one pair of normal socks in the toe of the ski boot and spent 5 frustrating minutes try to work out why I couldn't get my foot in it!!

I managed to stack my boots à la Tetris. For me it just fits. If not you can fit the boots sideway on top of each other. I’m skiing this week (but didn’t bring the zoom pack). When I get back next week I can test it out for you if you want.

@James the Last, for the EasyJet large bag, not the small one. It's also not a box/flight case. Lots of suitcases lose a lot of internal dimensions with how they position handles etc. on the outside. Also due to soft fabric they can all be filled to the extent that they end up outside the dimensions. What I wanted was something where the outside dimensions would stay the same but at the limit of what can be fit in the measure device thing.

The measuring devices often have rounded corners on square dimensions, so if you have a hard shell at the absolute size limit, it probably wont fit in anyway, whereas a softer case can be squished in a bit.

Even though the cases are soft sided, it’s really not that hard to avoid over-filling them - yes you can stuff them full and they’ll bulge out and exceed the sizing, but it’s obvious, and you can squish back the sides into shape by hand as you’re packing to ensure they’re within compliance (All the muppets you see at the airport repacking at the front of the queue must know they are chancing it).

@Pejoli, yeah but I wanted something I can stuff full to the very limit. Avoiding over filling is easy, maximising the allowance not so much.

I once saw a pair of lads, smashing their plastic suitcase into the sizing gauge - quite literally hanging onto the bars and using their boots to utterly destroy their case. They thought their mock aggression was hilarious, pulling off wheels and bits of plastic then decanting some items that had spilled out into their duty free plastic bags.
The suitcase didn't make it past departures and neither did they because they were removed from the flight.

Well thanks everyone for reminding me to buy stuff I don't actually need although sort of do.
I already have one that's around 15 - 20 years old and is falling apart and really uncomfortable because the padding in the straps is buggered, as is one buckle - it's tied together and a different length to the other so sits awkwardly off kilter and digs mercilessly into your clavicle. It's permanently grubby and was never very attractive to start with but it still did it's job.
I'm now the proud(?) owner of this blue and yellow Chinesium wonder - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07WX81SDB?psc=1&smid=AEP1Z46KP2T37&ref_=chk_typ_quicklook_seeDetailsToDp&tag=amz07b-21
I couldn't bring myself to spend decent money on branded stuff as I only use it once or twice a year. Fingers crossed I'll get at least another decade out of this one. I like that you can use it as a ski carry too. It's handy if you have a bit of a shlep to the slopes. I've got a small dakine heli pro that's been good for that but it wouldn't take boots too.

the dimension are shown on the link, and its too big for smallest "official" dimensions of both overhead and underseat EJ bags.

@SaraWelsh, Not the underseat. But fine for overhead. It's pretty much the same size as my last one which I've not had any problems with. That said the winter ski trips are usually with BA cos I transfer via Heathrow. I've used it with EJ but it's been a few years since then.
@t44tomo, Duly noted. Thanks.

@SaraWelsh, the underseat dimensions are 450x360x200. The bag in the link is 490x310x320, so not even close. As tomo says, it's also too big for the larger 560x450x250 size for overhead (which is more common sizing for most airlines, including BA). Carrying any bag like that will always be a risk of having to pay for it to go in the hold which I'm not sure is worth the risk.
I never quite understand why people complain about being 'stung' by easyJet when you have to confirm about 3 times when purchasing a ticket that you are happy with the luggage size....then they email you a couple of times before the flight too.

I have a different aerolite bag with the same stated dimensions, but a hardshell 4-wheel design. https://aeroliteluggage.co.uk/collections/56x45x25/products/aerolite-56x45x25cm-lightweight-hard-shell-cabin-hand-luggage
It definitely fits in the BA sizer. I haven't tried EJ. However, the one that JTL linked to is a semi-soft bag, which means you can probably overstuff it so it won't fit in the sizer. The 25cm dimension is the most problematic IME.
The bag is absolutely enormous for a cabin bag - I can get enough in it for a 10-day trip combining 5 days work (i.e. jacket and shirts) and 5 days skiing including boots, and have space to spare.
