Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where to go? April 4th ski week recommendations

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello! This is my first post so am sorry if it's not in the right place...

Taking grown up children somewhere for w/c 4th April and would ideally like to go to Austria for a change and the apres. Am worried the snow will be rubbish though. If you have any recommendations from experience that covers the following I would really appreciate it:

Snow-sure (as as sure as can be)
Intermediate to Advanced onpiste skiers/boarders
Sociable drinkers that like a vibe
Good eateries
Not too long a transfer

Thank you!

One obvious answer - Ischgl, reliable late season conditions (open until beginning of May), large ski area, well known apres spot, fly into Zürich and train to Landeck, 45 mins transfer from there.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I was going to say the same. In fact we just booked that same week in Ischgl for April 4th last night ! We are also skiing in St Anton as usual at the end of Feb / beginning of March but I think Ischgl will have more runs with decent snow conditions as a lot of the ski area is high up.

It's many years since I was last in Ischgl (1998 in fact !). It was mainly a German/Dutch crowd back then and few of the staff in our hotel even spoke English. I think it's a lot more popular with the Brits now than it was back then.

@JohnS4, I went back in 2024 after a 13 year break and expected to hear more British voices but I didn't really notice any difference. Still mainly Germanic/Dutch voices.

@JohnS4, Sadly the Arlberg packs up pretty early these days. Many of the apres places close well before the lifts close (the Moose seems to stay open until the end). They even start to reduce the lifts and buses after the end of the "main" season ie from 07.04 this year. Ischgl seems to keep going to the end, which is the 1st May - public holiday and a big concert.

That's the same week as Snowbombing in Mayrhofen, if you fancy something a little different!
