What are your ski boots like then? |
Dunno, but i definitely suffer from sweaty feet, so removing liners and boot banana tends to be standard practice.
I don't have the sort of rose-scented hoofs that allow traipsing around in socks after a day skiing!

On the footwear point, I'm with the folks who say lightweight boots. Just versatile, and good ones are as comfy as trainers, yet waterproof and breathable. That toughened layer above the sole means they don't get damaged by the rocks and stones found in the typical ski car park, nor have salt discolouring them.
Wearing mine today on the mean streets of London, and they are comfy, warm and dry. I prefer a slightly less sporty look than the MOABs and walking shoes, but that's personal preference. These are good as they slip on and off hands-free quite easily, and are great for driving as very flexible. Tie them up tightly if going for a proper walk, job done.
Overthinking ski footwear is definitely something I have done! Years of getting it wrong have led to the lightweight boots thing. This only goes wrong on hot spring days, and then I just wear trainers, again rigged to skip on and off easily without the faff of tying laces.

My ski socks don't smell, neither do my boots. I don't get sweaty feet

Good for you! I'm sure your beautifully scented feet are an absolute delight, as you pad around in your socks, which in turn pick up no dirt from the floor. It all sounds very lovely.

You'll definitely want boots for Soldeu at the moment. It's been going from snowy, to icy, to slushy and then just damp at village level quite regularly this season. You'll want the grip and the extra water proofing from boots. You might get away with trainers at some points.

Having lived in the Pacific for years , where it is the height of rudeness to walk into a home in street shoes I'm used to being barefoot though it took me a while to get used to it in the office. With those rules floors do keep fairly clean. Unfortunately in the UK most people expect to wear street shoes into one's house! When family are around my hall is always littered with shoes. Socks aren't safe for the elderly, especially on trendy wooden stairs.

Wear boots (of whatever type takes your fancy). Pack M&S Slippers (the moccasin type) for indoors and also, if needed, for driving.
Funny story; I was on a corporate ski bash with some rather brand-conscious individuals. We were sitting in the bar, me wearing my M&S, slippers when one of the attendees looked at me and said "Are those the latest Tods ?". Much mirth ensued when I revealed their true provenance.

but where does the dirt come from? no-one wears shoes inside and the floors are washed several times a week.

I travel in a pair of boots with good grip on the soles and a pair of slippers for going around the hotel. My feet thank me every time time I take them out of ski boots and put them straight into slippers.
Only hassle is having to remove the boots at airport security.
If it’s a posh hotel I’ll also take shoes for wearing at dinner.

I have just had to remove a ski sock and given it a good sniff and it is as ‘fragrant’ as when I put it on this morning. Could be good for a second day, but I brought three pairs with me so I will be extravagant and out a fresh pair on tomorrow. I have been padding around the chalet we are in with just a slip on slipper thing on one foot, the other one seems to have gone awol, and I haven’t got the dog to blame.
@Harry Flashman, I do like the look of the Sorel Explorer Next boots you mention, so will have to investigate those.

Bare feet are generally a lot less smelly than those just come from a welly ( my son wrote a poem about that once). But in a less clean environment than @holidayloverxx's apartment I'd stick to slippers.

FWIW, they aren't Moabs and I have a pair of them (the shoe version): they seem fine so far but they haven't been worn that much (Meindls still holding up).

Doesn’t snow in Lisbon but rains a lot in winter. I am enjoying trail running shoes, light, awesome grip, and an extra cm of waterproofing all around the sole.

Where is Dutch Carl when you need him? I often wear flip flops (which take up negligible luggage space) indoors; Carl tends to wear them outdoors too. |
+1
There's nothing nicer than a post last lift outside beer and giving your feet and calves lovely blast of the the chilly fresh air and only flip flops will do.
(Mind you I do have North Face bubble slippers for the Fruhstuckraum...it's only fair)

Wear your boots and tie the laces of your trainers together and hang them around your neck so that they are underneath your jacket and take them anyway. Add a bit of extra string if too short.
You can also do one of my favorite blags which is to ask a duty free shop for a spare carrier bag and stuff everything extra into that then seal it up. Even if you have to pay them a pound for the carrier bag it's well worth it.
