Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Apex, Silver Star or Big White this weekend?

Have a 4 day ski break 24-27 January and weather forecast is crap ie no snow due to super persistent blocking high pressure air mass Sad

Do any snowHead know what current conditions are like at those resorts - probably only piste skiing wull be possible.

Hate ice and stones so which has best snow cover? Staying in Kelowna so all 3 are attainable.

Not aware of current conditions, but I am aware that they don't call it Scrapex for nothing, so I'd choose one of the others, both of which are larger....SS has my vote for very underrated ski area. Try 'em both. At SS, go to Bugaboos for a killer cinnamon bun!

Jnr sent me a video from the mogul course at Apex a few days ago and it was very icey.

Thanks for the replies so far. Revelstoke feels a push at 2.5 hours and also no snow in forecast.

Being positive I will at least see Big White(out) in all its glory for almost the first time Toofy Grin

Roidumonde, I'd agree with Scooter in Seattle, Silver Star is underrated, and Bugaboos cinnamon buns are great.

Apex is fun with snow, will lose the appeal very quickly without fresh stuff tho. The drive up is scenic Toofy Grin

If you want a cheap day skiing, head over to Baldy Mtn - probably a couple of hours from Kelowna - we had a great day there couple of years ago. No lift lines with 2 ft of fresh powder, on a Saturday. Very under the radar sort of place Madeye-Smiley

No get the creme brûlée croissant - divine. SS has been closing some of its doubles because of lack of snow, but they have a 6am report on instagram and facebook each morning. It was in pretty good shape when we were there 3 weeks ago and they've had snowfall since- I think the base is around 116cm, but Milky Way was getting icy and probably the same now as I think its been a week without snow. Big White very likely to be Big Whiteout with cloud cover. The only problem with SS is that the main chair on the front side is slow slow slow and big queues. If you ride it 8.30-10am then you can do laps until the crowds build up, but once they are there expect 20 minute waits.

My friend lives in Kelowna and she skied at Big White last Sunday and she said the snow is terrible.

Silver star had excellent snow on the pistes. Big White has heavier traffic and was slightly patchy in places but both were great fun - decided against the trek to (cr) apex mountain....
