Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Has anyone had any experience of the dolomites points system. Does it work out cheaper or more expensive than the lift passes?

I looked at this and the obvious answer is it depends how much the person skis…
I came to the conclusion that for a beginner it would be cheaper for a few days but the calculations got complicated as the points vary a lot. Eg the baby slope in La Villa is 16 points per run but they do lots of runs, the next step up is donninz 18 pts gardeneccia 51 pts but the gondola out of town was 100+. A days ski pass is ca eur70 and you can get ca 900 points for this. I decided a beginner wouldn’t use that for a few days but it was someone else’s money and they just bought a weeks pass.
If someone is not a quick skier and is going to ski only 2 or 3 hrs a day the points could end up cheaper, or if they plan to do bits and pieces here and there without a specific plan
I did check to see if I had access to our beginners ski pass data from last year but sorry I don’t.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I used it last year and the year before on
the Birthday Bash
, as i was somewhat limited in my skiing time due to ACL issues - it was very straightforward, and did save me money.
You can't pre-order it, but the local office sold me the pass without any fuss.
You do need to keep an eye on the points, but it's pretty easy - each time you go through a lift the display shows how much you've used and how many points left. You can split a lift 'cost' across 2 passes, if you have both - scan one (to finish it off), then scan your new pass to cover the rest of the points cost.
If you haven't already seen it, here's the detailed pdf for this year:
