 Poster: A snowHead

Just had to take my 3yo to hospital via air ambulance helicopter from La plagne and ended up in chambery hospital. Long story short is that he’s fine now but in overnight for observation. Likely to get out tomorrow.
Any recommendations on how to get back to La plagne in terms of transfers/taxis etc… not sure if a lot of transfer companies are setup for a phone call and pickup in the morning.
Don’t mind spending what is required but might not be covered by travel insurance so don’t want to pay too much over the odds unless it’s required.

@gazkane, How about taxi to Chambery station, train to Aime, local bus up.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We got the train from chambery to Aime last year (landslide transfer chaos) and it was great. We then booked a taxi from Aime up but there are buses

@gazkane Presumably you have already spoken with your insurance company - ask them to book a taxi all the way?
Otherwise as @rjs suggests. If you are worried about language, ask Acceuil in the Hospital to book a taxi to the station and another taxi up from Aime.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I hadn’t spoken to insurance last night due to all the drama but have done this morning. They say just to pay myself and submit a claim. I’ll see what hospital recommend.

I'm sorry for your terrible experience and apologize if this advice is obvious....
Make sure you keep receipts for absolutely everything including food/overnight stays etc and full Doctors reports....and even proof of missed skiing days/unused lift passes....They may not pay everything, but at least your claim will be comprehensive, backed by evidence.

Genuine question... is there not an obligation to only incur "reasonable" costs in such situations? So if there is a easy public transport option, an insurer could expect someone to select that over a 70 mile taxi journey?

I picked bolt as the option at 270 euros. Mainly because my kid was shoeless and in his pyjamas due to the rush of the initial incident, and I was in my snowboard boots and trousers and didn’t really feel like public transport was the right thing for him at the time after a crazy 20hrs. I’m not 100% sure it’s covered by insurance but I’d have paid it regardless. If it is covered then bonus. I’ve kept all receipts and I’ve missed 1 day of snowboarding but I won’t worry about that.

@gazkane, a lot of the detail seems insignificant at a time when your kids are ill or injured. Must be very stressful so I really hope you are all okay first and foremost. You can arm wrestle the insurers in due course. Best wishes to your nipper!

@gazkane, given those details, taxi seems quite reasonable to me. Hope all is okay.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Yes, I'd echo all that. Taxi perfectly reasonable and almost certainly cheaper than a private ambulance. Hope it all goes well from here on in..... keep talking to the insurance company.
