Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Schruns Lift Question!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all!
Just wondering if anyone here knows the Schruns / Silvretta Montafon area and can help me out.
I’m staying in Schruns for February half term and trying to figure out the best way to get up and down the mountain. My hotel runs a shuttle to the Zamang Bahn in the morning, which is great, but the afternoon pickup is really early.
What I’m hoping to do instead is get the hotel shuttle to Zamang Bahn in the morning, ski all day, then leave my skis in the heated lockers at the Intersport at the top of the Hochjoch Bahn. From there, I’d take the Hochjoch Bahn back down into Schruns at the end of the day.
This plan only works if the Zamang Bahn and Hochjoch Bahn both arrive at basically the same place at the top of the mountain. From Google Maps and the piste map, it looks like they’re right next to each other, but I’d really appreciate it if someone could confirm that for me.
Hope that makes sense — thanks very much in advance! Smile

@JessG, I went to Schruns last winter but can't say for sure that they arrive at the same place. I think they do.

However I would say that leaving your skis up there would be limiting if you wanted to go to Gaschurn or St Gallenkirsch cause you would have to take 5 lifts (I think) with very little skiing to get there.

We took the bus to St Gallenkirsch in the morning to save lots of lift time.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I hadn't thought of doing this - but can see what you mean looking at the piste map. Were the buses user friendly from memory?

I've just come back yesterday from Silvretta Montafon.

The Zamang and Hochjoch Bahns are quite close together, so your plan would work, even if you did go to Sankt Gallenkirch (or Gaschurn) - though this would mean making sure you'd got back via the Grasjoch Bahn and runs 1a and 1b to the last valley ZamangBahn at 1630.
Buses are also pretty good - they run every 15 mins between Sankt Gallenkirch and Schruns.
However, 4 members of our party decided to leave their skis every day at the bottom of the Valisera Bahn, which limited flexibility for them if we were over in Gaschurn, or wanted to end the day at the bottom of the GarfreschaBahn which had a handy bar and was very close to our apartment.
Not only that, but you wouldn't be able to finish the day by doing the long run to the base of the Hochjoch - it's excellent and the black end section is surprisingly friendly unless too icy or slushy. And the Hochjoch Bahn is one of those enormous 60+ people cattle truck things with a change in the middle, it's not quick or comfy!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The 650 bus runs from Schruns (both gondola stations) to Gaschurn/Partenen stopping at Sankt Gallenkirch (Valisera Bahn & Grasjoch Bahn)
From memory there are 2 x buses per hour. Excellent reliable service.
Enjoy!

Thanks so much - always good to have real world advice rather than just googling! Thank you

We took the bus from Schruns to Gaschurn on our last day cause we wanted to board all the way back to Schruns. But if we went back we would get off the bus at St Gallenkirsch, board to Gaschurn then all the way back. The bus seemed to take ages from St Gallenkirsch to Gaschurn.

As per Leonard's comment, the top to bottom run into Schruns (through the tunnel) is great. Around 1800m of vertical. A definite highlight for me.

We also took the bus to Gargellen for the day.
And did the train/bus to Brandnertal on another.
I really liked Brandnertal so the trek felt worth it. Note that there are some limited stops faster buses between Bludenz and Brand.

One more question! Does anyone know if the lift car parks included with the lift pass, or do you have to pay extra to park?

ok, have in mind that this week is the carneval week in S.Germany.

Never use the buses in Montafon, so i do not know how reliable will be, but this week will be really crowded. I mean better to find an option which do not depends to the local bus lines

No skiing route down...
As for parking, if you park in the underground carpark below the Valisera Bahn it's E5 per day, or E20 to charge an electric car inc parking (pay at the ticket office - doesn't tell you this anywhere!). You can park in the big outdoor park for free.
