Plus Garmin pumps data into Asics Runkeeper as well... I already used it with walks and running so will check what it made of skiing... - as I didn't know it would!! Yep, it tracked my skiing from December.
We tend to use WeSki for Apps as well as Garmin, mostly when the group has a mix of Garmin vs Apple vs Fitbit and you can find people you are connected to on the mountain which can be useful.
I think I had another one, but did manage to grab screenshots before it disappeared so I can compare the data a little.

GPS/GNSS does latitude/longitude/elevation by default. Don't need barometric altimeter.

@ste_B, I am not certain on the tech TBH as mine (935 & 970 models) both have barometric altimeters as do other advanced models. Perhaps the more basic models use GPS triangulation to detect changes in altitude.

I use Polar watch (edit: GPS altitude only afaik), which syncs to Strava. If I wanted, I could sync it to Garmin Connect too, but I don't cos it'd screw up when I use Garmin eTrex or bike computer, and end up with everything duplicated. No clue if I could sync that data to Ski Tracks too?
I think Ski Tracks defining feature was that it handles uplift and downhill properly?
Last yr I did note that either Polar or Strava did report the number of runs properly, even though it is more like a running watch but with the correct sport profile. Actually it was 1 run more correct than putting lift pass number in the Dolomiti website, cos that doesn't know where you went after the last uplift.
Personally I don't care whether the app does or doesn't split out uplifts etc. Same on a bike. I don't record number of runs for either. I record where I went, and the chairlift or ferry or the magical mystery bus thru the forest is a part of that journey for the day. If I was training doing intervals or something, then I'd record it differently.
And the phone is reserved for communicating.

Question for Slopes users- is the facility to see where friends are on the mountain part of the free App or only on premium?
Also for those considering other options I saw on the following link they are offering new users a year of free Premium for those importing data over from SkiTracks from now until April (disclaimer I haven't confirmed it works or whether you need to cancel at a later date to avoid being charged next year etc):

@GottaCatchEmAll, I believe you it is possible to see friends on the free app but it’s been a while since I upgraded and can’t remember.
This is what Premium includes and no mentions that seeing fiends is an upgrade which therefore must be included.

@andy, Are you concerned about having duplicates in Strava? I’ve had the same issue with dual recording on wahoo for my bike or Swift and Garmin at the same times. The workaround is to have everything go into Strava as “private” initially (Strava setting) and then go through and delete duplicates and change the privacy to friends or public on the activities you want to share in Strava.

@Ozboy, Nope, Garmin.
If I go hiking or MTBing, then I have both the Polar watch and a Garmin device running in parallel (with navigation etc. too), but when skiiing only the Polar watch. I only sync Polar to Strava, because Polar records everything for every activity I do, but Garmin records only "many" things.
Plus Garmin might be ace at making devices, but they are useless at software and websites, imho.
I don't really "use" Strava. Don't have the app. It's just a convenient place common to everyone in our limited group that have an array of Polar, Garmin, Wahoo etc. devices, that don't want to have to join all of the different device mfr sites. And all the sharing is limited to friends.

@andy, I have a similar setup to you but everything goes to Garmin as I haven’t watch running for all activities with parallel recording on slopes, Zwift or Wahoo for biking.

@GottaCatchEmAll, I can confirm it does work. I did it myself.
Can't comment on whether you need to cancel, but I don't think you do. Didn't need to agree to anything or pass credit card details. Just uploaded the data. Best guess is that next year it will downgrade to non-premium with a flurry of emails suggesting I pay to stay premium.

This is my experience.
Garmin doesn't sort out uplift while skiing properly. The default setting is to detect when you're going uphill and pause the activity, restarting as a new "lap" when going back downhill. I assume it used the altimeter for that rather than GPS as GPS altitude is very noisy, and watches without barometric altitude don't support the skiing activity types (which is handy way of Garmin nudging people to get a more premium watch).
My workaround is just to turn off the autolap on the skiing activity type as, like you, I want to see where the lifts went as well as the downhill runs (always interesting to see a drag lift with a curve in it or where the mid station is on a gondola). Which means Garmin doesn't really show much on skiing other than the GPS track. But when that activity syncs to Strava it does do some nice analysis of uphill vs downhill to count runs etc, not quite as good as ski tracks in analysis per run, but good enough.

@bouquetin, I always record with my Garmin in parallel as a backup to Slopes App. I see your point about wanting to track the uplifts and you might be able to do it without having to disable auto-pause by selecting the Back-Country Ski activity. The normal Ski activity works for me as I don’t care about the uplift and the main stats I track are total kms travelled downhill, vertical m descended and average moving speed. Looks quite good on the Garmin Connect map.

I don’t want to speak too soon but I used Ski Tracks today and it was business as usual, no subscription asked for
I also had Strava running and noticed it looked a bit fancier than before (although I didn’t get a chance to dabble with it) and also differentiated downhill distance from total distance - which I don’t think was there before?

GOOD NEWS! PREVIOUS LIFETIME Subscribers DO NOT NEED TO SUBSCRIBE AGAIN.
I got a reply from Ski Tracks and there is now a new link for lifetime purchases to buy pass the pay wall see below.
I am very happy with the response from the support team!
If you are a lifetime purchaser, you should not be asked for a subscription.
Please tap on the Restore Purchase/Already Purchased option on the top of the paywall (the screen where you can see the subscription prices).
Please note that, for the Restore Purchase/Already Purchased option to work correctly, you must be signed in with the same Apple ID or Google Play account that was originally used to purchase the app.

They have managed to tank their Google Play Store ratings with people going back to change four- and five-star reviews to one-star because they thought that the app wasn't honouring previous lifetime subscriptions.

Interesting as Apple Store is still showing good reviews.
I’ve logged in and managed to create an account, everything is backed up locally, and it hasn’t requested anything else on a dummy run so all seems well for me too. My daughter used in Dec without problems. Will
Wait to see how Mr A (who inexplicably has used ski tracks lite for years!) gets on.

Me too. Interestingly I have never had a login (don't need that) just hold the data locally. I'll probably lose the data when I change phone. I can live with that.

I have changed phone twice and so long as you don’t delete the app and you set up your new phone from back up it won’t be lost then either. I’ve been saving since 2019 and only just created an account

Oh, suckered into signing up. I usually activate Ski Tracks having started skiing. This time, i couldn't see what I was doing (visibility wasn't great). Seems I signed up for a recurring £4.49 weekly payment. Only got to hear about it today because for some strange reason, Google is sending Play invoices and other Google comms to my wife, and she usually ignores them! Not today, as I am back home and she asked why she is getting invoices for me sent to her! Am asking for refunds but if I don't get them, it's a cost for exposing an odd problem with my Google a/c. I suspect my wife signed up using my Google sign on through Norton! Am usually able to advise her how to spot scm emails but this is another category of software eff up, partner inflicted
