Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Four people were injured on Sunday, January 11, after a snowmobile lost control and ploughed into skiers queuing for a chairlift at Avoriaz Ski Resort in Haute-Savoie, France
The incident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. at the bottom of the Lac Intrets chairlift during a busy morning with excellent snow and weather conditions drawing large crowds onto the slopes.
According to a report by SERMA, the company that runs Avoriaz’s lift system, a SERMA employee on a snowmobile lost control shortly after setting off and accelerated directly into the lift queue. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as the vehicle struck multiple people. “There was a huge noise and screams,” one skier told Ouest France. “When I turned around, I saw the snowmobile, a skier stuck underneath and several people on the ground. To within one metre, I was cut in half.”
Ski patrollers responded immediately, and a major emergency operation was launched. Two medical helicopters, fire brigade vehicles, and medical staff from the Avoriaz medical centre were deployed to the scene. An initial assessment suggested six victims, though this was later revised to four injured individuals.
Among them was a 22-year-old woman who sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Geneva Hospital. SERMA confirmed that while her condition was serious, her life is not in danger. The remaining three victims—including the snowmobile driver—suffered minor injuries and were treated locally at the Avoriaz medical centre. Two other people involved were escorted back to their accommodation by ski patrol.
The rescue operation lasted just over an hour, during which lifts in the area were temporarily shut down and skiers were redirected to other parts of the ski area. Normal operations resumed once the scene was secured.
The driver of the snowmobile was immediately tested for alcohol and narcotics, with results coming back negative. The vehicle has been impounded and transported to the municipal technical centre for detailed analysis to determine whether a mechanical failure may have contributed to the accident. The French police have opened a formal investigation to establish the exact circumstances.
