Hi, have found the various forum posts here really helpful. We are going to arc 1800 with my two kids (9/6…their third ski trip), and my wife’s parents, who ski pretty well. None of us have been to Les arcs before and looking forward to it. We are there 24-31 January. Staying in iseran, Chantel, 1800
I’m unsure what to do on our arrival day. I think we should arrive around 11am ish - though I’ve never not been delayed so assume this will be later in reality.
We can’t get in to our accommodation til 5pm (!)
I think we can collect skis around 3ish maybe a bit earlier.
So basically with my family asking us, and me foreseeing the hangry kids (and me), my first question is is there somewhere not crazy expensive/nice enough to eat when we arrive? In 1800 itself I mean…
We had thoughts about after getting our skis trying to do a bit that afternoon/evening, but I can’t see us being organised enough/that working if we aren’t in our accommodation til 5. So maybe I forget skiing that day.
So with that, would the public pool be a reasonable activity that afternoon? Any better suggestions? Filling a couple hours basically I guess. I’m assuming I’m going to go for the basic lift pass, not the essentials, ie, I won’t have access to the lifts til Sunday I think
Thanks again
Mike

I can't comment on 1800 (I have an apartment in 1950 - hence username) but it's probably worth contacting reception for the accommodation. It's low season, so they may well have apartments ready well before 5 pm, and if they know you'll be there much earlier, they just may be able to prioritise (no guarantees). I'll be arriving also on the 24th, and hope to gain access earlier in the afternoon.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I was about to suggest going bowling but just checked and it doesn't open until 5pm...doh. You should give it a visit at some stage during your holiday though, it's good fun.
You can leave your luggage at the left luggage office.
For afternoon activities the kids will possibly enjoy the mile8 sledging track. I couldn’t fit into the sledge, but the more flexible would love it,
The swimming pool complex at mile8 is also good so remember swimming costumes.
If you want some free skiing the jardin alpin lift is free. I know the combettes lift is free in 1600 at the weekends and there may be a free one in 1800 as well but I’m not sure.
There are plenty of good restaurants in arc 1800
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@mdhenning, the Voga Goga restaurant at Edenarc just above the Iseran building fits the bill of not crazy expensive and nice enough. We always go there on arrival in Les Arcs (we stay at Edenarc) to sort out the hangry kids (and adults!)
@mdhenning, they'll be busy usually on a changeover day in that period, accommodation staff that is. We always make polite enquiry as to room readiness if arriving earlier than stated time, most often to good effect if the prep has been completed on your allocated rooms. Worthwhile asking.
Otherwise, LA 1800 is very good generally to wander around and find your feet, without anything specific to aim for. The small funicular from the Chantel location takes you straight down to village central level (no pass needed, I recall) where there's numerous options to eat, drink etc and generally a relaxing atmosphere to get the feel of the layout etc.
Its fairly extensive and with more availability of one row back from snow front to find some of the more interesting restaurant etc. Genuinely a good introduction to life at 1800 I feel, in familiarisation for your group. We've enjoyed days like this with our own kids, let them explore and they choose where to eat as it brings a nice outlook for them to enjoy being part of a different environment.
I've a real soft spot for LA1800 always love to return

I go to Arc 1800 every year. For the past 12 years
This year will be my first staying in Chantel at Edenarc as I usually stay in Villards. I would leave your luggage in the baggage room at the bus station for the day or if you are taxiing up from the train station to Chantel i am sure the hotel must have a baggage room. Get changed in the baggage room and go skiing. I have done this multiple times when waiting to check in. I have also done it with my kids. Just pack your ski stuff on top.
Regarding lunch - go down to Miam Corner on the Arc 1800 snow front for a burger. They are great!
For evening meals go to the following:
La Cabane des Neiges - have the brassero
L'ecale Gourmand - have the La Potence
Dream Spot - Have the fondue in a loaf of bread.
You will see all what Les Arcs has to offer and all the food we had. Any more questions just shout.
After all it is free

Definitely worth asking about early arrival - in many years in Vallandry we've often been in at 1pm

Great thank you all, will also watch that video now. All really helpful. Sounds like it’s easy to navigate and find food on day one anyway so that’s great.
Lift passes - maybe if the ski Saturday pm is an option I should go for the essentials pass then, will have a think
