Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

EasyJet Newcastle to Geneva

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
EasyJet usually fly from Newcastle to Geneva on Saturdays. But for first couple of weeks of April those flights are on a Sunday. The flights were scheduled to get in at a convenient 16.30. But this week they have changed it to a useless 23.00. By the time you get through passport control you would be lucky to be leaving the airport before midnight.

This service only runs in the Winter. So it is targeted at skiers. What is a family in particular mean to do at Geneva airport at midnight? Obviously a hotel is an option but there is a significant cost to that. Plus you have lost a day of your holiday.

I booked for my daughter, son in law and grandkids to come out and join us in April. I did that ages ago and the change was only announced this week.
I have applied to cancel and get refund (easy to get out with KLM bouncing through Amsterdam). But EasyJet are not famous for returning money.

Chief executive’s wife wants to come back to Newcastle on a Sunday evening after skiing. Rather than put in an empty leg back to GVA, they’ve put a return flight on. She can’t decide which week she’s coming back so they’ve done it for three of them.

@JohnMo, not a lot to do at midnight in GVA. Apply for the refund, and find another option. I've been told phoning them works better, but you may be on hold for a while.

Thanks for that. I have submitted the request. I will give them a couple of days and, if nothing, I will call them.

If it was just me I might be tempted to stay in Geneva and get a stupidly early train that would still get me on the slopes at a reasonable time. But no way can my daughter and husband do that with the two young kids.

I would hope there'd be no problem with a refund in those circumstances. And you're quite right to reject the idea of that flight for a family.

Someone will no doubt correct me if I’m wrong, but if you booked tickets for the Saturday, I believe if the airline then cancels that flight/pulls the route they are still legally obliged to get you there even if that means them stumping up for you to travel to a different airport and fly with another airline. I think them switching the day would fall into this category. So in short Easyjet should be footing the bill for any extra costs incurred by you in switching to KLM and flying via Amsterdam.

“Never accept the refund, always make them get you there (if you still want to go)”, was the advice I was given by someone I know who used to work for BA.

Or were the flights for the Sunday when you originally booked and it’s just the time that changed? If so, then I’m not sure what options you have besides what you’ve already done.

If the airline gave you more than 14 days’ notice of the cancellation, they are not obliged to pay you compensation.

You don’t get compensation (as in extra money for the inconvenience), but they are still obliged to get you there if you want to go, which is what a lot of people aren’t aware of (and the airlines are happy for that to remain the case, as refunds are much easier and cheaper for them).

@Ingemar_Skidmark,
The flights were always for Sunday. We didn’t mind that.

There is a lot of information about if flights are cancelled or flight times pushed back at short notice. It is harder to get the information regarding flight times being pushed back a couple of months in advance. Inevitably EasyJet don’t make it easy to find out on their website. There seems to be some rule about the change needing to be more than five hours (or maybe 3 hours in some circumstances). “Fortunately” this delay is almost 6 hours.

I suspect there will be a lot of cancellations. A lot of people on that flight are going skiing with families for Easter. For the same reason as my family, getting out of Geneva airport at midnight is useless to them - the original scheduled landing time was fine for any of the Swiss or French resorts routinely served by Geneva airport.
