Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

LOOK NX12 Binding Forward Pressure

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all, I bought a pair of Rossi's before my last day in Corvara last week with LOOK NX12 bindings and had them fitted to my boots in the shop. I removed the bindings from the skis to go home (a) to stop water leaking out over the edges, which is a real nuisance and (b) to get 3 pairs of skis back in two bags without any risk of any sneaky extra TUI airline charges.

This is how the bindings were positioned by the shop, for my 313mm boots, at 324mm at the toe and 312mm at the heel (320mm is partly showing because my phone camera is angled to avoid the heel markings being obscured by the brake)

and this is the resulting forward pressure indicator:

I hadn't looked at that until I was removing the bindings, and I did think it looked a little odd. However, I had no trouble with them (DIN=5) but I didn't come anywhere close to falling.

Now that the boots and I are home and dry (without charges at the airport) it's time to refit them. The latest technical manual that I can find online is 2020-2021. That says that a 313mm boot should be 308mm at the toe and 312mm at the heel (2 notches back on the toe relative the shop), which looks like this:

This is the resulting forward pressure indication, which (a) looks right to me and (b) is consistent with the technical manual (page 17, photo 26 in the link above), even if the design of the binding has changed slightly.

So, two questions:

Does anyone have a link to a Rossignol/LOOK 2024/25 technical manual? and, more importantly
Am I right in saying that the forward pressure is correct in the last photo above?

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Here is a 2022/23 tech manual. Page 18. These are GripWalk bindings with the same number, so probably still the same design, but do check for yourself.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'm no expert, but it looks like the shop had the track bindings set slightly too far apart for your boot sole length, so just as well you checked!!

Does this mean you need to back off some of the spring pressure though to achieve the desired 5.0 DIN setting?

Thanks @Scarlet, I should have said that these were NX12 Konnect, i.e. the retail/rental plate system. That's on P. 29 of the 22/23 manual and is the same as the 20/21, so the minor design change happened in the last 3 years.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I don't think so @luigi. The bindings are set correctly DIN-wise so with too little forward pressure there'd have been a risk of them pre-releasing. I have absolutely no idea how much 16mm of extra travel forward on the heel binding would impact on that but I suspect I'd have lost a ski if I'd caught a slight edge at speed, but I didn't and I didn't.

@tsgsh, the shop settings were wrong, you've got them right now. I rented a pair of Rossis with these binding just before Christmas and it took the shop tech a couple of goes before his manager was happy with the forward pressure. The setting that she approved had exactly the same forward pressure as your set up.

Thanks @Valkyrie, I appreciate the confirmation.
