 Poster: A snowHead

So going to Ski Famille Les Menuires. One of the children has only ski id once here two year sago (he's 7 now).
We were advised to buy him a 3 valleys lift pass at the time which of course he never used!
We are being advised the same again. However, knowing the resort now we don't think it's likely he'll be going up any major lifts at the beginning of the week v so it would be more economic after 2 days to get a reduced number of days or even a daily pass as required. This would save a lot of money as we wasted over £250 last time on a pass he never used. Conversely we don't him to be stuck without a pass if the instructor says he needs on!!!! I know companies get a cut for selling passes so any comments welcome.

@Dorothie2,
i assume he will still need a ski pass as their are only a couple of free beginner lifts in LM, and he should be away from them within a day or two at the very most.
the thing is, the instructors will know the best place to take the group depending on snow conditions and experience, it may well be that they will take them to places with access to wide green runs, la violette via Roc1 would be a good example.
a six day 3v junior pass is 335 euros, where a les menuires pass is 275 euros.
i was just looking up similar for our next trip to VT in march, where daughters (so far, non skier) boyfriend will be coming with us, but for the sake of it i have advised him to get a 3v pass for the week.
there is a daily reduced LM ski pass, @ approx 37euros per day, but that is a lot of faffing around on a daily basis
you say you "wasted" over £250 on a pass he never used, do you mean he did not use any lifts at all, and just stayed on beginner travelators, or none of the links to the 3v's?

Thanks. no he didn't go further than the beginner travelators so we were a bit annoyed that we paid for a full week 3 valleys pass for him. I think he will be past that this time but he prob won't need all 3 valleys. Just trying to work out how many days he might need if we could save some! £300 is lot for a child to go up a in a lift a handful of times. I remember when you could buy a 2 valley pass etc and their were more options. As a family group, because of the children, we prob won't make the most of all of the adults having a 3 valleys!!!

I have been with Ski Famille and other operators in the past. I prefer to just buy the passes myself, although it is less faff to get through the operator as they'll have them ready for you in the chalet and they should be similar price (you can always check their price vs. going direct and check the exchange rate).
If you are booking ski school, why don't you ask the ski school what ski pass they recommend for your child and then you can do the relevant calculations and decide what to do. Also worth factoring in that if you buy ski passes for your whole family, everyone in the family pays the child price - at least that's what it was when I skied with my family of four in the Three Valleys a couple of weeks ago.

its even more flexible now than what it used to be, before it needed to be 2 adults, whereas now it can be 1 adult. this affected me previously as i would take my 2 daughters on my own, but managed to combine with another dad at the time, and his two boys, who's wife did not ski.
you can also order online, and they will be delivered to your home address if that works for you

Just double check you are not paying over the odds as the 3V family pass is really a good deal. If you have your old ones knocking around somewhere it’s very easy to recharge them from the comfort of your own laptop!
I remember “taking advantage” of the service offered by a particular operator until I realised I was getting absolutely ripped off for the privilege!

The family pass is a good deal if you're all going to make use of it. Trouble is in the afternoons one of us has to stay with the 4 year olds! Also still hard to decide how the older one will progress. Ski Famille just say we will need the whole thing!
I'm in favour of waiting til we get there to ask the instructor but others want to get them now. They do pressure you to do that I feel although we are getting skis etc direct from the shop which is cheaper!
We like Ski Famille and all it offers but just feel this extra cost could be made less some how! Family skiing is pricey enough!

Whenever I’ve emailed ski schools they’ve been pretty responsive so could you give that a go rather than waiting till you get there?
