OMG! I'm about 400m from there! Something woke me about then and all the car alarms were going off but I assumed it was just fireworks (which were still going sporadically).
PS. Typical that I'm the "on the spot reporter" and @Alastair Pink, beats me to filing the story.

Jeez, they are now saying several dozen killed and a 100+ injured 
@adithorp glad you missed it, I can imagine it will be a very somber few days.
Fingers crossed no SHs or their families are impacted.

I was just about to post on this. This sounds horrific and I hope all my Snowheads’s are ok.

This just flashed up on my Twitter feed. I thought at first it was AI clickbait given the number of casualties - sadly not. Thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy.

I was just explaining to my daughter how back in the 70's -80's, I seem to recall that every now and again there would be a tragic incident like this, such as a fire in a nightclub and many people getting caught and unable to escape, thankfully those incidents until today, have been far less frequent with advances in fire regulations and safety, but this is just heartbreaking as I thought gone were those days.
Though obviously it's a live ongoing investigation and will be a while before all the details are known.

It is there. I walked past last night and nearly went in for a beer (much earlier). Warnings around the slopes today to be careful because there's no spare hospital capacity.

The town is so changed since I was last there that I have no idea where that is. No matter.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I find the last bit particularly distasteful and unnecessary. Like it only matters if some Brits might have been involved.

To be fair to the BBC, if they reported on carnage which probably didn't involve any Brits they'd have time and space for nothing else. If this had been a fire in a cinema in some Indian backwater we'd probably not know about it, let alone be commenting about it and sharing a personal feeling of horror.

One thing I read mentioned someone speaking about being concerned getting out of the establishment in an emergency. What a terrifying situation, a fire and you can’t get out - awful

because of this reason, you would have thought that the resort would have been closed for day, i am sure the vast majority of visitors would have understood this

Thinking back to my childhood, when I used to play with the kids of Crans' 'ruling' families of Bonvin and Barras (families which valais2 told me were still very much around, about 70 years later) and thinking how their descendants were likely involved.
