Sad and scary, in equal measures.
Interesting that a couple of them were 2/5 days, given the comments about recent snowfall and wind

@SnoodyMcFlude, yes La Plagne and Valloire have seen little recent snowfall, the others all seem to be on the French side of the border ridge.

There’s a pretty persistent weak layer , we noted it first week of Dec about 10cm down when we were digging hand pits.

Four hikers killed in avalanche in Greece
Four hikers who went missing on Christmas Day have been found dead after being buried by an avalanche in the Vardousia Mountains in central Greece.
The bodies of three men and a woman were found on Friday evening after a large-scale search in the mountainous region of Fokida, according to Greek state broadcaster ERT.
Fire authorities located the bodies partially covered by snow on a steep and inaccessible slope near the summit of Korakas peak, at an altitude of about 2,000m (6,561ft). Rescue officials said the group was swept away by an avalanche.

Saw the helicopter sorting something serious in Val D, I can see why it happened with the conditions. There was a decent bit of snow over that side of the resort.

Mammoth Mountain, CA, Ski Patroller Dies After Inbounds Avalanche
Sadly it was confirmed Sunday afternoon that ski patroller Cole Murphy, 30, has died from injuries sustained in an inbounds avalanche on Friday, December 26.
Murphy was one of two patrollers caught in the slide while conducting avalanche mitigation work on the mountain amid an ongoing storm cycle that brought several feet of new snow. The resort closed operations on Friday and Saturday to allow officials to assess conditions and ensure the safety of rescue crews and guests.

Worst avalanche report in years: 13 fatalities this season (So Far)
There have been 13 avalanche deaths in Austria so far this winter season.
Although this is significantly more than in previous years, it is not unusual.
The Alpine Police reminds that emergency equipment protects, but is not a guarantee.
According to the Alpine Police, 13 people have already died by Sunday this season.
This is significantly more than in previous years, when three, seven and one avalanche victim were registered by this date.
The last time there were more victims was in the 2018/19 season up to the cut-off date of 18 January. At that time, 14 winter sports enthusiasts had died in avalanches by then, as the head of the Alpine police, said on Sunday in an interview.

A 32-year-old male reportedly died in an off piste boarding avalanche yesterday here in Val d’Isere according to my guide.
Last week there were also one or two fatalities here. Very unstable snow pack.
