Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mobile phone strap for safe piste map checking?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for something that straps your mobile to your ski jacket? Now that paper maps seem to be things of the past, id like to be able to check the mobile piste map on a chair lift without risking losing it! Far too high risk.

99% of phone cases have 2 loop holes in them for a tether. Most ski jackets/trousers have a chord for this.

Not very helpful, but check if your clothes have the chord.

My case doesn’t have a loop hole but I found some tether tabs on Amazon that you insert through the USB charging port (very thin so doesn’t interfere with charging) which give me an eye on the outside of the case to attach to. Then I just use a lanyard to connect this to my jacket.

I keep mine in my inner breast pocket which has a zip. Keeps it warm as the cold kills the battery. I could probably secure it somehow with a lanyard if I felt the need.

As a matter of interest, where are you going that has stopped paper Piste Maps?

Puzzled not any of ours!! Although I think I vaguely recall one years ago having such a thing? G major I think.

Madame's case has a loop hole. I think her cord came with it?

She has Raynaud's so can't take her gloves off.

We’re in La Plagne this week. You probably can get a paper map if you find an info office in the centre, but there are none in the hire shops or lift pass offices I’ve been into. I don’t mind necessarily (although I’ve got quite a nice collection and it’s a shame not to add to it!), but I just don’t want to lose my phone Very Happy

@chaletgirl002, That is more than reasonable.....I wonder how many phones they find when the snow melts Puzzled

My phone always stays safely tucked away on Chairlifts....I only use it to contact members of my skiing group when on the mountain.

Fix a loop to your phone case and attach it to your belt loop with a length of para cord.

I use something like this attached to loop holes on my case and the other end just clips to the zip on my inside jacket pocket. I found an iPhone on the piste the other day and so always worth tethering.... just in case.

Thanks, that looks good. Haven’t got a case with a loop hole, so sounds like I’m going to have to get a new case as well!

I quite often get my phone out on a chairlift, not so much to look at the piste map, but the live version showing lifts and piste openings, essential at this time of year, this season at least. And I often need to reply to emails/whatsapps, which I can see but not respond to on my smart watch.

So I've long had a tough phone with lanyard loops which doesn't need a case at all. Just replaced my old Oukitel WP6 which was only on Android 9 and therefore starting to be incompatible with new versions of apps, with a WP55 on Android 15.

Anyway, I just make sure that I put the strap round my wrist before removing from pocket. There is a clip in one jacket pocket, but it's not the inside one I always use for my phone, so not a lot of use.

I've got one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0FGX3TR5P?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details&tag=amz07b-21

It should fit most phones and it certainly feels sturdy. The strap will be long enough to keep the phone in my jacket pocket.

Not tried it on the slope yet.

@chaletgirl002, Personally I like the X-Level Guardian cases that have loop holes.

I have no affiliation with Wipeout but been using these for years. A piste map that you can mash into a pocket (and much smaller than paper map) which also serves as a lens cloth.
