Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I will in due course, but figured people might look on social media first…

If I was designing a product like that I would put a serial number on it that the Carv company could match up with the owner.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

No incentive to as then they can sell another unit. But seriously its probably uneconomic to bother as the hardware is probably the cheap part of the equation, no point in adding cost to them.

There _is_ a serial number on each unit... its very small, and I don't think most users would bother to make a note of it... until it's too late!

I would expect Carv to be using the serial so if it was provided to them they could identify the owner. Some might say its not in their interest but equally its a selling argument saying that if its lost and found we can trace it back to you - much like the key fobs that many people have now, especially given that this isn't a cheap device.

Don’t they have a leaderboard like Strava? S/n presumably links to that if so. Or is it private data only?

Have been in contact with Carv support, who now have the serial number and will attempt to contact the owner. I doubt I’ll find out if they were successful, but they seemed pretty helpful on the chat.
