Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best time to drive up to resort on a Saturday?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Departing Geneva at 10:30am on Sat 13th for La Plagne Centre.

What might people recommend to avoid traffic jams and a slow tortious crawl up the mountain?

1 - Just head straight up, it’s too early in the season to worry about traffic volume on changeover day …?

2 - Nooooo! Go and have lunch and a walk around Annecy and don’t head to the resort until much later in the day (unless you want to sit in your car all day)…?

3 - Who knows? Who cares? Grow up and work it out for yourself…

4 - Generally traffic is only bad between x and x times and if you avoid this time window you’ll be fine…

Off to sleep, full marks to anyone still up and willi g to respond before 10:30am GVA time!

Thank you

#1 suck it and see Very Happy be sure to let us know how it went. Hope you get a good week of holiday.

In fine snowHead tradition though:-

Have you considered Austria ? Its considerably cheaper you know.

Or the Dolomites, they have good snowmaking for early season.

What about the snow chains or socks debate Toofy Grin

Will you need to stock up on supplies down in the valley.

Ooooh, thats an early start for Feb half term Laughing

How do beer prices in LP compare to Austria ?

Can you stomach all that cheese eating Madeye-Smiley

I was being a little facetious @Sasha320320, in addition to answering your question.

Probably needed more Laughing in there to emphasise Laughing

Although, I'm a little envious of those getting out to ski early in the season in reality.

In all seriousness, I do hope you and anyone else doing similar has a great week in the mountains, probably without too much of a crowd too.

No sweat - all good.

For info (and as others predicted), no traffic whatsoever from Geneva to La Plagne Centre (aside from the obligatory kamikaze vans and small Renaults on the twisties…)

@ski3, you forgot to add that they should drive through Luxembourg to get some less expensive fuel.

Just looked at the les arcs livecams and snow looks excellent. Please leave some for later in the week.

Also the whether to helmet or not to helmet for ultimate thread diversion!! Laughing

@Sasha320320, glad you got to Les Arcs without a hitch other than dodging the kamikaze French drivers...try Italy next time for even more wannabe Ferrari F1 pilots overtaking on blind bends in an old Alfa! Cool

Have fun and make sure you do your best to wear out that snow for @johnE!! Toofy Grin

Yes, I feel the fastest way up the mountain in Tarantaise would be inside a "La Poste" Renault Clio van in yellow livery, immune from traffic law, and physics boundaries it seems at times when they wizz past. Very Happy

A very long time ago, I got the final bit of a transfer from Geneva to Tignes in that kind of van.

The first part had been in a normal coach but it took the autoroute to Albertville via Chambery instead of trundling around the Lac d'Annecy.

Was skiing by 1pm.

The main difference is just knowing the road. I get stuck behind things in the Val d'Arly all the time without trying to go faster than the speed limit.
