Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Trying out new boards

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm in the market for a new snowboard and I'd like to try out some new boards to see how the different camber/rocker combinations feel. My current snowboard is 15-20 years old, with standard camber, and I'm assuming the tech has advanced noticeably since then.

Ideally, I'd be able to go to a ski rental shop on my next trip and hire a different board each day. Does this seem like a reasonable approach? Will they get grumpy if I keep switching back and forth? Is it likely that any given rental shop will have a decent selection of boards to try? Any advice appreciated!

Welcome to snowHead

I’ve rented previously and asked to change boards to something stiffer and longer. Never actually asked for a particular brand or board style but I’m assuming that a dedicated snowboard shop should have more options than say, Intersport. I have seen extra charges at rental shops to allow for changing kit during the rental period

In Whistler at least you can change every day; I can't see that anyone else would be upset at the idea, but I've not actually tried.

It's a good idea though - I'm very fussy about board sizing and feel, and I really don't know if I'll like something until I've turned it once or twice.

I think you've missed the snowboard tests on the demo days list so far, but there will be more. Burton always run a couple, and there might be some boards at the freeride tests (you can email them to ask). Follow the brands you like on social media or email and you'll find out about any upcoming dates.

You can get a good idea of general characteristics of a board at an indoor domes. The snowboard shops do demos but they will be quite park/freestyle oriented but they will have the odd freeride board.

The Northern Snow show was great for demos. Burton had almost their entire family tree line.

Unfortunately I'm Belfast so no hope of seeing an indoor dome anytime soon unless I get the 2-man tent down from the attic. Sad

Demo days sound amazing, though.

I'll be in Flaine near the start of March. Any recommendations for a specialist snowboard hire?
