Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Will easyjet pay for our transfer

Afternoon,

We were supposed to be en route to PiPAU5 at the moment, but EasyJet cancelled the 2.30 LGW flight. We’re now booked on a flight first thing tomorrow from Luton.

We had a private transfer with cool runnings organised to BSM for this evening , but trying to rebook something for tomorrow morning at short notice is looking expensive (in the £400-700 range - cool runnings can’t do it).

Do we think EasyJet will cover this cost - ive read their ‘Notice of your rights’ piece, and it’s not entirely clear. When do costs start becoming ‘unreasonable’?

Happy to be proved wrong, but I think their obligation ends once they have got you to Geneva or wherever. (But it should include overnight hotel prior to travel, transfer Gatwick-Luton and some compensation).

It's one of the reasons why DIY usually works out cheaper than a TO; the latter includes a premium to cover unexpected circumstances.

my understanding of easy jet and the same type of airlines is to be a 'taxi service' getting you from A to B and anything before A or after B is not their responsibility - unless they are flying you as part of a tour operators package in which case a cancelled flight is the TO's responsibility to sort it out for you.

I'm sure its all deeply hidden in their T&C's...grrrr

@Pejoli, by my reading of things you're eligible for £220 compensation each, as it was a technical fault with the aircraft:

https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/holiday-cancellations-and-compensation/if-your-flights-delayed-or-cancelled/

https://www.easyjet.com/en/terms-and-conditions/notice-of-rights-for-flight-delays-and-cancellations

There are others on here who know the legislation much better than me.

That £220 each would easily pay for your transfer in the morning.

Amazing that they can cancel flights without being obliged to give the reason or be automatically required to pay compensation if it applies.

They have said why it was cancelled:
"This is because the safety of you and our crew is our highest priority and a technical issue with the aircraft could not be resolved."

I agree that it's annoying that compensation under UK261 has to be claimed rather than being automatically paid.

Here's another link explaining when UK261 does and doesn't apply and how it works:

 You know it makes sense.

There’s the LardyBus running which I’m sure you can join - if you PM Admin immediately. After all you’ve paid for it.

Else Altibus has availability on its coaches for €50 GVA to Tignes. https://booking.altibus.com

Otherwise catch the train to Bourg St Maurice and get the coach up the hill. 11.59 from Geneva station (you need to get yourself from GVA to Geneva station, there’s an 11.14ish taking seven minutes) arrive BSM 3.45 and get the 16.00 coach. Total cost €50ish each.

BEWARE the BSM coaches are running from a carpark down the hill

You get your statutory compensation and can claim for the costs you incur. I think quite generous compensation is available and I think your cab fare is not beyond contemplation. OR get a refund of the Easyjet flight - seldom the best option!

Thanks all - we’re now on a Luton plane about to push back, and managed to secure a transfer as a decent (€330) price for the four of us.

We’ll try out luck with EJ on covering the transfer - as people have said, worse case it’s a second form for the insurance co.

Hopefully there in time for a spot of after lunch skiing.

Easyjet have always been decent with us. They have twice cancelled our return flights. The first was from Salzburg. They agreed to move us to a flight from Vienna two days later as the next Salzburg to Bristol flight wasn't for a week. We put the claim in (omitting any alcohol bought with dinner), and they refunded us the cost of the train to Vienna, the hotel, and all meals. This flight was cancelled due to high winds in the UK.

The second time, they cancelled our flight from Pisa. This was cancelled due to an issue with the plane. We had the same message as you. We were offered an alternative flight from Pisa into Gatwick two days later. Only my car was at Bristol. We enquired about hiring a car as that was the most economical option due to train strikes in the UK at the same time. We were told that was an 'unreasonable expense' and that they would only cover taxis and public transport. We held them to that and got a private taxi from Gatwick to Bristol at a cost of £271.
When we claimed, EJ refunded the hotel, meals, and the taxi without any issue. They also awarded us (without us asking) £200 each compensation as the issue was theirs. Given that our initial 4 night Tuscany break was only £800, we were delighted with that.

Keep all your receipts, including for any other incidental costs you have incurred as a result of this change. We never include alcohol to ensure the claim goes through as it's not a 'necessary expense'.

It’s worth trying to claim of easyJet for the transfer, but claim for the flight cancellation at 220 per person.
Then if easyJet don’t pay for the transfer, claim on your travel insurance for the transfer.
