Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski hire in advance or not?

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello
We are off to Kaprun for Christmas week and I know that our hotel has a discount agreement with a couple of the local ski hire shops. I’ve always reserved skis online in advance before, but when I asked the hotel for an online discount code, they recommended just going into the shop on arrival. This makes me nervous, so after some reassurance this will be perfectly fine and we won’t arrive to discover there are no skis in town rolling eyes

I’ll only be hiring boots for a 13 year old, and skis for me and him (they don’t need to be flashy, just for on piste blues & reds).

Thanks

One of the largest sports retailers in Austria, Brundl Sport, is based in Kaprun where they have several shops and a huge distribution warehouse. They will not run out of skis Cool - and nor will any of the other shops in town. Christmas is not the busiest week of the season so there will be racks of new skis ready for the New Year rush.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Brundl sometimes offer discount if you book in advance - worth checking online. You can pick up/return at bottom of Maiskogelbahn in village or at Alpincenter on Kitzsteinhorn.

Thanks, the rational part of me knows that, the control freak side is telling me to reserve like I always do. I will resist the urge!!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I wouldn't worry at all about running out, more about getting the best deal. Have the hotel told you what their discount level is? Then you can find out how much it's going to cost you with that. I'd be comparing that with any prices you get independently. Hotel discounts are not necessarily always enough to get you the best price. I'd also be thinking about where you're going to store overnight - if you need to do that, I'd be going for a shop as close as possible to the lift (assuming they offer storage).
