Passport.
Cut toenails (for very snug ski boots).
Ear plugs (for oneself and/or room sharer).
Hip flask filled with suitable pick-me-up.
Phone charger (and mains socket adapter).
Anything else I've forgotten?
Or that you need, but tend to often forget?

Only forgot it once, but couldn't find a replacement in resort – a sports bra.

Painkillers - Ibuprofen, Paracetamol. A few pence in Tesco, but will cost you a fortune in a local pharmacy. In France, at any rate

Old type Italian plug adapter with smaller pins than a standard euro plug. I've got several but often forget when going there.

Record photo of passport to facilitate if you loose (or as the fail thread, misplace ) helpful to at least have the details if replacement is needed in emergency.
Same for driver's license.
Suitable contact details on your phone primary screensaver, such that someone can call that number if you've left it somewhere.

@Crosbie, I like the way you bring a phone charger but not a mobile phone. I would also suggest you check your mains adaptor, making sure the pins are less than 4mm diameter if going to Italy or some parts of Switzerland. Japan, natually throws up a complete new bag of compatibility issues. And I would replace a hip flask with some tea bags
I forgot a kindle charger cable recently, forgetting it was miscro USB and not USB C.
Apart from prescription drugs almost every thing is available almost everywhere in the world. And yes @Scarlet, my wife bought a sports bra in Intersport.

Easily forgotten? Able to be forgotten but easily? I would hope not.
Other stuff
GHIC cards
Print out of boarding passes/accommodation/rental car/maps (don’t leave it all to digital means)
A pen
A bit of local folding money

@johnE, 'tea bags'? I presume you mean those things you stick in your gloves that look like tea bags, but actually heat up your gloves?
Yeah. Sounds like something easily forgotten.
And who could possibly forget their phone? Not easily forgotten - if you ask me.
Oh. Let's not forget snow chains.
And ski wax, and edge sharpeners.

I was about to suggest non folding money for coffee machines and, in Germnay, toilets. Though thinking about coffee machines now seem to take card payment.

@ster, in my experience, a passport is so vital that folk can't even begin to countenance the possibility that they may have forgotten it.
It is easily forgotten in a different sort of way.

And assuming you don't lose your phone:
1. Mobile phone.
2. OneNote or similar app that lets you create checklists.
3. Build up a checklist, split by ski/checked/carry-on bags as you pack your bag then check them as they go in/uncheck them as you repack to come home.
4. Reuse for your next ski trip, striking through any lines that aren't appropreate, and minimise the risk of forgetting anything, even the non-escentials.
And @Crosbie, tea bags packed and checked off for the PSB.

@johnE, I can just imagine you coming to a well earned rest at the side of the piste, and in kind consideration of your fellow skiers, exclaiming "Hey! Does anyone fancy a tea bag? I have a few in my pocket. Don't worry, they're really fresh - Fortnum & Mason's finest."

@Crosbie, when I leave the house I check my pockets for four things - wallet, phone, spectacles, house keys
[But its true, on occasion, I have left home sans one of these]
When for overseas I add passport to the list.
Everything else can be bought, borrowed or rented relatively easily.

One thing that you learn if you visit France enough, or if you live in France, is that the French don't understand how to make a cup of tea - unless you count a Liptons Yellow Label gnats' pee tea bag in a cup of 60 degree water, as a 'cup of tea'. Milk or not.
So, you are correct. I would never ask a Frenchie for a cup of tea - especially piste-side.

I once forgot to pack my underpants and one of our guys did, indeed forget his passport (for the journey home). He left it in the apartment in Verbier and didn't realise until we got to Geneva to check-in desk.

Bit like the skiing mantra - before leaving the accomodation in the morning it's; hats, googles, gloves and passes. And normally it's only the children who have forgotten something. Normally...

@Mjit, er, you can add boots to that list, when they are left in the corner of the flat rather than taken down to the car to drive to the gondola

I can't forget the lenses, because they are in my eyes (I don't wear disposables).
I did once forget the case & liquids, but they can be bought from any pharmacy or optician, so that wasn't really an issue.

Know it's a tough rod to bear etc but you should try packing for going back for the season as well as a couple of months after that, so full set of toys required.
That's one wing foil board, two foils & masts, four wings, helmet, impact vest, wetsuits etc etc *
Road bike, Spring & Summer clothing, tool kit (s)
Indoor trainer and indoor bike
Then three dogs and all that they require
60 cans low alcohol Guinness 96 cans Small Brew 2% IPA
Loads of other groceries.
Three laptops and loads of gadgets GPS GoPro Heart Rate belts etc
Chargers, head torches, numerous pairs of sunglasses prescription and non, contact lenses.
Household tool kit and drill
And loads of clothes as we do Summer there and UK
Did I mention shoes
I'm actually just taking a break from loading the van (off tomorrow) which is a workout in itself being on the third floor and no lifts.
Now also taking my DryRobe as KenX said appartment is feckin freezing as the underfloor doesn't kick in until Dec 1st
*Not taking kitesurf gear

The thing that worries me most these days is wallet. I’ve got so used to going out without one - it contains nothing I need on a month to month basis - but when abroad things like GHIC and credit cards might be useful.

That should be laminated, @tangowaggon. One of my friends made a laminated list of the aires on the motorway down to the Alps, so that he knew which ones to avoid because they involved a short detour over across the carriageway. When I expressed my incredulity he made me one!

Re: tea bags. I live in a land that tea forgot (ie. France) and I carry them everywhere. Many a student has spied a teabag in my standard bag stash and asked why do I have this. I tell them I'm from England and therefore I have emergency tea (important to push those stereotypes ). I follow this up (in my head) by saying 'and I'm not trusting a French person to supply it!'.

Stanley French press and some decent beans I've bought from my local place which I get ground shortly before. If it is just me traveling then the jet boil is sufficient.

Biggest faux pas were forgetting:
- my driving licence, when car rental was critical to the holiday, just me driving, on 2 separate holidays 10 years apart. Both times we were saved in the end, I won’t bore folk here with the details. Lesson learnt, I now keep it with my passports 365.
- left my phone at home, just didn’t pick it when departing our home. Thankfully I don’t usually do e-tickets, had no need for email, all key docs were physically printed. The main thing was that my wider family were surprised I wasn’t replying to sociable texts.
I’ve run packing lists on Excel for possibly 25 years, varied for type of holiday. Behind my back, a brother in law said what a naff thing to do. His idea of a holiday in getting slaughtered for a week (in his 40’s) in a Mediterranean beach resort …. he has no comprehension of what a winter sports trip entails.
