Hi All,
We have been going skiing for the last couple of years booking through Inghams/Panaroma etc, but this year we decided to go it alone. I would appreciate if anyone can give some advice on the following:
1. Can someone please provide the Ischgl Tourist office link - I read about it on Snowheads over the last couple of days, but can't find it now
2. There are 16 of us going, we have booked 12 people into the Schmid Garni Hotel in Ischgl, but we need to book another 4 people. Does anyone know of another good Pension which is close to Schmid Garni Hotel.
3. All of us are flying into Friedrichshafen with Ryanair - we would like to book a mini bus for the 16 of us to take us from Friedrichshafen to Ischgl - can anyone recommend a good, reliable company which we could contact about this?
4. Any other information which you can provide about Ischgl would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Killeagh.

Killeagh, welcome to snowheads .
There is a rollover menu under "snowbase" (bottom right on mountain picture at top of screen). The first item is "resorts". If you click through on that you will find Ischgl's address as THIS

Killeagh, I've just booked a minibus from Friedrichshafen for 8 of us to Ischgl and back at Christmas with Alexander Tullo for 500 Euros for the return journey.
Here's a list of taxi firms on the Friedrichshafen airport website. I emailed the two with email addresses and he was the only one to reply, but it was much cheaper than booking a taxi from Ischgl.

Hi Ray/Stanton/RachelQ,
Thanks for the info - it is much appreciated. RachelQ - is the 500 Euros for there and back (ie €250 each way? I presume this is what you mean but I'd just like to confirm). Also is it in one mini bus or two taxis (perhaps they didn't say but jsut thought I'd ask - really just wondering if we can get all 16 people onto 1 bus - make sure noone is missing on the return leg?). Do you have to pay the money up front now, or when you get the taxi?
Can anyone reccommend a place in Ischgl to rent skis - some of us would like to get superior skis, but we also have 3 beginners who will prob just want regular skis. Finally one or two people have suggested that Ischgl is not the best for beginners - a couple of years ago we did Andorra and Livigno when we had alot of beginners, but now as I said we only have 3 new additions to the group this year - anyone with recommendations for good runs for beginners?
Thanks again for all the help,
Killeagh

If you don't mind driving you'll probably find the cheapest way is to hire a few cars through Ryan Air's Hertz agreement
A Peugot 407 (big enough for 4 or 5) from Friedrichshafen airport is £135 for a week at Christmas.
http://www.hertz.be/part/site/ryanair/itinerary
It's a fairly easy drive up to Ischgl ... bit windy but no big drop offs if you're a nervous driver/passenger !!

Hi RichA,
Thanks for the info - I will check it out, although as I said it's our first time doing a DIY sking trip , so might just take the easier option and hire a taxi
Thanks again,
Killeagh.

Hi RachelQ,
Thanks for the info - I thought that's what you meant but I just wanted to check. As everyone has been so helpful so far can I ask if anyone can recommend a Pension in Ischgl and if possible provide a website. We have booked 12 people into Hotel Schmid Garni and we need to find another Pension for 4 more people - we got the Schmid Pension for €60 per person per night, so this is what we would like to get the other 4 for. We tried http://www.tanzer-ischgl.at/ but they are €75 per person (not too much more but it does not seem to be as good as the Schmid Pension).
Many Thanks again.

Killeagh, you could try asking Hotel Schmid Garni if they could recommend a taxi company for the transfer.

Killeagh, other transfer options are www.taxi-ischgl.com and www.laresch.at
Alternatively a cheaper option would be that you could get a train to Landek (about 20 mins from Ischgl) and then bus/taxi from there. Train times and fares can be found on the link to the railways is here http://www.bahn.de/pv/view/index.shtml
There are many ski hire shops I can give you some names and phone numbers if you wish, but it won't be a problem doing what you want when you are there, they should all offer a range of quality of skis.

Killeagh, another thought on the accommodation. Have you asked Hotel Schmid Garni for recommendations? I would have thought that they should be able to help you with alternatives.

I don't know where the Schmid place you're booked in is but I posted a load of hotel email addresses in Ischgl on this thread ... I always blanket email (bcc) that list when I go there.
http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=16344
www.ischgl.com used to have an excellent interactive map of the town on it but the site has all changed recently and is no where near as good as it was.
As others have pointed out, I think your best bet is to get a recommendation from Herr or Frau Schmid.

Hi All,
With regard the transfer we have decided to go with the taxi option - less hassle and more reliable than renting a car and trying to find our way there and back, similarly with the train option, even though it would be cheaper it would be difficult to make sure 16 people all get the return train on time.
With regard the accomodation I have asked the Schmid family to recommend another pension - they recommended Pension Tanzer - when we checked their site it said that it was €60 per person per night at the time we are going. We contacted them and they said that it is €75 per person per night (don't know if they are pulling a fast one here?????)
Finally as the interactive map is no longer on the Ischgl website, can anyone recommend another site with a good interactive map? I have found a couple of ones but they do not have alot of detail.
Once again, thanks for all the help - all of it is much appreciated.
Killeagh.

This is the clearest piste map I've found, and here's a general guide to the skiing that seems quite good.
When are you going?
I've just checked those links and the first one takes you to the Silvretta site, you'll need to click on Pistenplan on the left hand side.

Killeagh, the Ischgl tourist board have a std pack of info they send out upon request - in it is a really excellent town map as well as piste maps and other guides.
Send them a mail and ask for one.

Rachel Q: we are going on Saturday the 24th February for 1 week. We were trying to decide between France and Austria, but the French schools are on holidays from the 5th February until the 5th March, so the slopes would be pretty busy, hence we decided to go for Austria.
Does anyone know when the Austrian and German schools are on holidays? I have googled it but cannot find definite dates. Has anyone been to Ischgl on the last week of February - if you have been are the slopes very busy and is there queues for the lifts?
Stephen: thanks for the info - I have contacted the Ischgl tourist office and they are going to send me out the pack you mentioned.

Killeagh,
You asked about beginner runs - check out Alp Trida side of the resort, lots of blue runs there as well as mild reds to progress to and the scenery is beautiful.
You will certainly find good ski shops in Ischgl, you will have at least two big stores on the main street close to Silvrettabahn lift.
Ischgl is a fantastic resort - have a great time!!

Thanks Turns'n'turns - the last couple of years we've gone we've always had a good few beginners, but this year we only have 3 but we want to make sure that they enjoy themselves. I'll pass on the info to them about the Alp Trida area.
