Interesting poll from Powder Mag here about ski width. Obviously very US centric. And a bit stupid that they only have a "less than 100mm" section.
Its from a reddit thread on r/ski

I cant imagine the typical powder mag reader who resides in Bellingham, Crested Bute or Jackson Hole has much need or desire for a 65mm race ski ....
Kind of pointless survey that.

If every condition includes west coast cement "powder" then an adult male doesn't have a lot of fun below 100mm.
It's more a poll on how readers interpret all mountain than it is about equipment.

Ditto - totally happy in any conditions on 90mm

I assert that for Europe 90mm is more than enough! I have Kendo 88s as my go anywhere ski. Never felt the need for more.

Have the previous generation at 90mm - fine in Canada and USA rockies

@Bones, do you ski as much off-piste as on with those? I am assuming this is what an all-mountain ski means.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Totally!
Moreover, I wonder what the distribution would be like if they poll the number of skis Powder Magazine readers have? I suspect the percentage of having only 1 ski be tiny!
So the question is not only biased. It's so pointless that the result speaks for itself. Whilst only 22% choose below 100mm. The a full 50% choose the one category just over 100mmm!
I think it's clear Powder Magazine readers largely don't much care about skiing on piste. That shouldn't surprise anyone.
Having said all that, I've tested a couple of 100+ skis and I must say I'm really impressed on how capable they are on piste. Still, I wouldn't choose those to be my "only 1 ski". But that's because I still ski on piste.

More off, tbh mainly in trees, glades and other interesting features Groomed trails to access the good stuff
Since most of our trips are over in NA -at least in the last 20 years or so, I'll happily use them anywhere. SWMBO is the same, in fact she's on the female equivalent.
This leads to some interesting times, as by a real quirk we're in the same size boots - thanks to Colin for mine - and can swop skis, we however often just swop one ski to much amusement, especially on full 4 person chairlifts
I bought a pair of 100mm Mantras, the red ones without camber, didnt enjoy them much at all, took em back for a full refund and bought the Kendos

There is a massive difference between what most people seem to be on in the Alps (slalom skis) and in NA (anything but slalom skis). Mind you I'm over there 2-3 weeks a year in March, so I'll not claim authority, but each year its the same, and I take notes!
Why? Guessing it snows more often over here?
Not to be critical of the OP, but that survey is silly and useless.

The actual Powder article admits to the silliness and methodological errors made. It was largely a bit of fun/ social media engagement.
Alps - depends very much on where you are and what demographic you're looking at. Scandi avy poodles being very different from Italian artisan plumbers slalom club. British rental skiers being different from SX91 wearing French old boys (for whom the answer is often teal Rossis or chicken heart Dynastars).

Gawd those teal Rossis (4S?) were everywhere over here. And we called those Dynastars "Barney Clarks", him being the first recipient of an artificial heart!

I have 68, 90, 97 and 106.
Last year I drove to the Alps at Easter and took several pairs. Ended up on the 106 nearly all the time. Amazing skis and really versatile.
Would love to try something wider in really deep snow but never had the chance.

A thought that if NA is in-bounds skiing, and Alps etc is on piste, chances of deeper snow in the latter are much lower, so people buy narrower for the groomers.
That might offend European powder hounds, but in terms of sheer numbers I think it holds.

There's a reason I've never been sponsored by a ski manufacturer
I don't get air so you can't see the undersides

I am similar, but on 97mm. I am surprised you are mostly skiing fresh tracks on such narrow skis (people sometimes tell me mine are narrow!). But of course some of the off-piste is on skied-out snow, which to my mind is the same as ungroomed piste.

Mostly fine tbh - suits my technique and style I suppose.
Theres always going to be some compromise with a one ski quiver - but as we are skiing in North America its not practical to have multiple pairs. When I bought them my size was mostly sold out in SLC mid Feb. which tells you something. I got lucky a retailer I didnt want to use had a pair.
