Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

In poor light you want something that increases contrast, that means something between Yellow and Red, ideally wait until you are in resort on a bad day then take them outside the shop and see what works best for you, because everyone has different personal preferences this works best

Yup, it's all about personal preferences.
I use Fire Iridium, some use Hi-intensity blue or yellow...

Whatever suits your eyes is what you should go for.

CANV CANVINGTON, We have the amber lens Dragon goggles, which were excellent in flat light . . . AND no misting! Very Happy

CANV CANVINGTON, chums like a very pale Oakley yellow. I tend to go for amber or gold myself.

You do not want green, grey, blue, etc. in flat light. That is not personal preference but the way light works.

"In General" - an orange/rose/persimmon coloured lens will perform better in low and/or flat light.

Also - don't be fooled by looking at the exterior colour of the lens. Oakley Blue Iridium for example looks like a mirrored blue finish, but when you look through them it's orangey.

However there are some notable exceptions. Oakley do a lens called "HI (High Intensity) Yellow" - it looks yellow with a slight blue flare to it - this gives 90% transmission and is absolutely awesome in flat/low light, in terms of contrast.

However wear it on a moderate or sunny day and you will have dazzle headaches.

The HI Yellow is now called the Hi Blue.

CANV, if you go for Oakleys IMO the best lenses are the HI Blue for v.low to mid light & the Fire Iridium for mid to bright light.

The best test is in the mountains in the bad light then you'll know...

I have some old glacier gogles with a very dark but blue tint...pretty damn good in every light, as it happens

In poor light I favour and use the persimmon lens which is more yellow. I then swap to the fire iridium pair for bright days.

Personally I like yellow. I currently have blue for flat light and they're OK, but not as good. I've tried the pink but didn't find that good at all. I don't go for the expensive flashy ones - just practical do the job types. Lots of people like orange, but I find it way too dark in poor light. You really have to try them all and see.

True about the sunshine - my Scotts are horrible if it's sunny - major headache and eyeache.

That's what me and my friends did when we got caught out up the hill when the sun suddenly vanished and plunged us into a foggy gloom. We went into one of the slopeside shops, grabbed a mixture of colours and stood outside trying them out. The shop suggested which ones to try and we picked which worked best for each of us.

It makes so much sense to buy them that way, I've bought another pair since off ebay but I'd already tried them for fit and colour beforehand so knew what I wanted. I don't think I'd be happy to spend £50 on a pair without knowing what they'd be like.

CANV CANVINGTON, I replaced my Oakley persimmon lens with the HI Blue and the difference in flat light is very noticeable.
All of my mates (with various makes/lens types) who tried them said they were better than what they had.

The HI Blue's are really good to have in your pocket on a blue sky day when you are doing runs down at the end of the day after the sun has long disaapeared behind the mountains.

I will second this.
Your eyes may like the way a different lense diffuses the light, than the lense I prefer.

Like Fox, I like the Fire Iridium, or amber lenses(Depending on the mfg)

Others rave about a grey lens.
