Wow, I have been looking at the webcams too. Impressive to see the early opening, Combloux sector in particular usually has a more squeezed season than the rest of EMB.

Somone beat me to the punch on starting this thread. Got a phone call late yesterday afternoon form my boss asking me if I could work Thrsday through Sunday, I'm already working all next week.
Cote 2000 has 1.5m of snow at the top - I know this because of of the jobs was putting in the snow studdy plot today and part of that was getting the measuring pole to touch the grass. In reality there is mid calf to knee deep soft ish stuff about and the pistes are quite nice.

Evening all, I've been a lurker here for many's a year but the info has been top notch - we're a family of 4 heading out to Les Con on 28th December and getting excited after seeing the early dumps. Its our first time in this spot, we've done loads of other spots around French, Austrian and Italian alps but this place appealed to me with the larger Ski Evasion area on the doorstep.
For all you seasoned skiers who have frequented this area, what are the buses like getting down the valley, wondering whether to go with the Ski Evasion lift pass so we could try and do some of the other areas, but if its awkward might be better just going for the local pass? Or do you pay a bit more and have the flexibility of the full area. Any advice welcomed

Excellent @rjs. I was following the Remontees-Mecaniques forum closely last year when the new St Gervais lifts were being built but haven't been back recently. We must aim to ski those pistes down to Combloux this year.
Having opened the link, I searched to see if I could see anything about the rebuild of the St Nicolas village chairlift for which I noticed funds being put aside in a Mairie newsletter last year. Nothing doing, but someone else there commenting that this was a project announced but without a timeline.

@Snowhunter95, Google y84 bus, it’s your link from LC to StG.
From StG you can ski over to megeve or get tramway Mont Blanc to Les houche

I should have said that Les Houches is on a separate lift pass but personally I think it’s worth a day if you’re schedule allows it

Regarding Saint-Nicolas, the project to replace the village center chairlift is no longer scheduled for 2026 due to a high projected cost of €10 million. The current plan focuses on renovating the existing chairlift and developing the appeal of the Plateau de la Croix area.

Anyone got any info on the two drag lifts to & from Cote2000, have they been replaced yet?

Indefinitely postponed, current plan is to replace the Cote 2000 lifts but they are still hopeful of getting a positive outcome in the environmental case and if so they will divert funds back to the drag lifts. Also note that the Princesse lift+area is now managed by St Ger lift operator.

@devilabit, thanks. Yes, while looking at that Remontees Mecaniques web site last night I saw that one of the Cote 2000 lifts was down for replacement next summer. They are currently very slow lifts!
I hope it is good news about Princesse. It depends on whether there is any investment now, that area desparately needs a bit of investment. It is always a frustration that some of the most north facing runs are frequently closed simply because there is an area at the bottom where the snow gets poor, not having the benefit of artificial snow to build up a good base. I suspect putting in snow cannons, and the water supply for them, is quite a big job though.

Hope to find out more tomorrow night. There are plans/roumours at work. Everything was startered, and shut down by some mentalists with good lawers and Megeve having a weak mayor (the planning process is what was found at fault)
We have been told they are going to replace the Radaz chairlift next summer and the Cote 2000 one the following year, but we don't trust our corparate overlords

Expect it to be run better this winter (pistes will be open whenever possible, rather than when they feel like it). Some of the snow cannon work has already been done, more on the way next summer.

Brilliant!
We're out over New Year (with daughter who now has to work round work holidays) so we will see how it runs. Prospects for that week looking good at the moment.

Coming to St Gervais in Feb with the kids for a week. Looking forward to it!
Anyone have any recommendations for Gluten Free food in the area? Would love a GF burger or Pizza one of the days.

I seem to remember the Pur Bar (on the Market Square) advertises some gluten free options, but you would have to check. Their food is along the burger/pizza lines, and not bad.
To be fair there may be others, it isn't something I specifically look for. I think tartiflettes should be naturally gluten free, but you would have to ask the specific restaurant.

Megeve has opened the connection between Rochbrune and Cote 2000 today. To make the connection you need to take the Mouillettes or Variant Mouilletes to get to the lower part of the Rosiere. To get back the Pre rosset run to the Lanchettes drag is open. But the Lanchettes piste is not. Lower Fontaine is open but take the Jardin instead. Its all soft n mushy by 10am!

Thanks @Idris, we are out after Christmas and it doesn't look as if there will be any more snow by then. However lower temperatures might help.
For the journey over you can't avoid Petite Fontaine chair, so I guess you have to put up with soggy snow somewhere. You think connecting to the bottom of Rosiere green piste is better than using the red link and down Fontaine?
(Actually, if it is still like that New Year week we might consider simply taking the navette straight to Cote 2000 and then work our way back).
Any rumours about conditions elsewhere?

@mullins, the buckwheat (sarassin) galettes are worth remembering - I think they're GF and lots of places do them.

Good point @Origen. There is a crepe restaurant in St Gervais, Les 4 Epices, but I couldn't easily find their menu online to see if they mark their galettes as gluten free.
Interestingly despite specialising in crepes, it is a place where a lot of French groups (i.e. not just tourists) order fondue.

@robs1, actually “dies” might be appropriate. In St G at the moment and Pur Bar is closed with a notice attached to the door appearing to say it has been found to have broken numerous legal requirements.
Don’t know whether this is temporary or permanent.
