Normally I am travelling as a family so if we use easyjet pay for the privilege of sitting together.
This time I am doing an exceedingly selfish InsideOut Skiing holiday JUST ME! Hugely excited.
However just me I didn't pay for a seat and from tomorrow checkin opens.
Is it better to wait until closer to flight or best to do ASAP for odds of being allocated a better seat? I presume I won't get a choice in checkin?
Thankyou

I have never paid to reserve a seat on 100+ EasyJet flights and I’ve never been sat anywhere other than next to the people on my booking. Usually in rows 18-24

Similar experience to @Jonny996. As you're flying by yourself, I'd be inclined to wait until last minute with the hope no one has paid for the emergency exit row and you bag yourself some extra leg room. That's what I'll be doing in 2 weeks time when I fly back to the UK for a weekend.

Thats what my instincts say should be the case. Just wondering what others experiences are.

Given my children are both on (multiple) diagnosed spectrums, I could not risk them being seated away from me so one of the extra taxes I have on me as a SEN parent.

Also why I am so stupidly excited about a holiday on my own. Absolutely no demands on me to support the family. Don't get me wrong I love the time with them but my children and now 16 & 19, so it has been many years where frankly every day, every year, being responsible. This present to me, that this holiday is from my family for a big birthday starting up a 5 and ending in a zero is so needed and welcome

When I've left it late, we always seem to end up on the back row. Haven't got lucky with an exit row for ages, though sometimes you get swapped into one anyway if it's still empty at boarding and you look fit and healthy. If the flight's not full, you can usually move after takeoff, though might not be worth the faff for a short journey.

@NickyJ, If you don't mind, would you be able to make a mental note of how strict they are being on the hand luggage sizes at the moment? I have a flight next month, and we've booked a hold bag, but the hand luggage policy has changed since we last flew Easyjet. I don't think we'll need larger wheely hand luggage as well, which now seem to cost almost as much as a hold bag anyway, but the back length on the free allowance backpacks is shorter than anything we have in, so I was wondering how bothered they are if they're a bit longer? Thanks

When i went to the EOSB last year, i went with just carry-on bags on EJ - that gives you a seat somewhere up front as part of the price.
For some reason I didn't checkin until quite late - and they put me in 1F there and back. There’s obviously some point where they give up trying to sell them - as to how you devine that, I’ve no idea.

In my experience Easyjet are now making more checks on underseat /overhead luggage. Have often had check in staff walking the line looking for bags that might not fit the luggage gauge box. It's a good source of extra revenue for them and you can't argue as the limits are on the web site. Cargo pants and poacher pockets not being on the radar yet

@NickyJ, I never book a seat on easyJet but generally check in in advance and have my boarding pass, with seat allocated. I suspect there are very few people just turn up and check in at the airport in the hope of getting a sought-after seat! I couldn't be bothered, personally.
Have a wonderful time - you definitely deserve a trip just for yourself.

I’ve literally (today!) bought an aero lite bag which claims to be the max size for EJ and BA (which are strangely wide compared to normally proportioned cases) - waiting for it to arrive to see what it’s like.
My dilemma is I want my boots in the cabin with me, so have to pay for that option, and don’t want to be gouged for a hold bag as well - but that makes for a very tight pack with just the two cabin bags in play (29 mondo boots just about squeeze in to a ‘regular’ carry-on).Managed it last year for two bashes, hopefully this will give me a bit more breathing room (and an extra change of clothes for my lucky roommates).
(Still means I have the helmet outside strapped to the bag handle - I guess if they complain I can always wear it).

I'm a tightwad too and resent paying extra for baggage if I don't need it. I have the Aerolite (similar to the model below with the two wheels for max internal volume) and fit my 29 boots in stuffed with ski socks, underwear, then base layers in the upper cuff part. The rest gets rolled and slotted in the gaps around the boots. Soft-shell salopettes and helmet go in the smaller underseat bag, helmet void stuffed with goggles and 2 pairs of gloves. I carry my two jackets under my arm...the waterproof shell neatly slipped inside the thicker insulated one. I put heavier stuff (phone chargers, power pack, etc) in jacket pockets. I can usually get it all in under weight and size!

A mate who flies a lot reckons Easyjet checkin 6-7 hrs before the flight always gets him a good seat. I guess that's when they release the premium seats for general use.

Yeah, nice one, thanks. My touring bag is 30L, so bigger than my preferred choice, and I'd have to figure out how to remove all the airbag gubbins. My normal ski bag and hiking bag are both around 14L and wierdly shaped, so a bit small and not that great for travelling.
I have the previous version of this: https://eu.cotopaxi.com/en/products/rucksack-allpa-28l-travel-pack-del-dia which is about the right volume, but at 49 x 28 x 23 cm annoyingly doesn't match Easyjet's 45 x 36 x 20 cm. I don't really want to buy yet another bag

I use my Ortovox pack which has my boots in top and tail, i fill them with small stuff. Wear my jacket and a couple of layers, carry helmet on side of bag or front in Mesh pocket then take it off when i'm boarding. Rest of kit goes in ski bag iwth two pairs of skis and a few mesh bags of kit and avi gear bar electrics. Have never had a problem with any of that.

These are great bags - can easily get through a 2-3week family holiday with 1 bag per person, and no need for checked luggage. Only issues are a) they have to go flat in the new oversized lockers that airlines are starting to fit; they can't go on their side to make more space, and b) they won't fit in an Embraer-190 (City airport) overhead bin.

In my experience if you go early on the check in, you get allocated seats at the back (don't sell well) and they gradually fill gorward from there. Go late you'll get slotted in a random left over single (often an aisle seat). Sometimes you'll get lucky with a row to yourself or an exit (i got an exit row to myself on Ryanair recently )

Yes, that accords with my limited experience and with the need to balance the trim of the aircraft - on a half full fight they don't want everybody in the front! I generally check in late and am often in an aisle seat, which suits me fine. The recent flights I've done have all been very full - nobody with a row to themselves!

Re easyJet - be aware they've recently changed their charging framework and you can't change a seat once you've done an online check-in. On my LGW>GVA boking in December, they have removed the cabin bag and Speedy Boarding that came inclusive with Rows 1-6. You now pay separately to choose a seat; add a cabin bag; and add a hold bag. And once you've chosen your seats, as I mentioned, they can only be changed by contacting them on a chat, not online.
Apologies if everyone already knows this, but I only discovered it today when checking-in for my December trip out to Geneva.
And I can't see any mention of Speedy Boarding anywhere. If it's disappeared, it'll be no bad thing - it had got ridiculous. Hopefully, they'll now be boarding by row numbers á là BA and most other carriers.

Just checked in for a EasyJet flight for the PSB, I have extra hand luggage booked for my boots, and therefore get Speedy Boarding, as a consequence of that. I have got 3F on the way out and 2E on the way back. When speaking to @Judwin on the EOSB he pointed out that Speedy Boarding should get you up front seats , this has not always been my experience in the past though. Luck of the draw I think.

It certainly had. Many a time and oft (Bassanio) have I sat in comfort reading my book watching great gaggles of people standing for ages with their baggage in a queue for "speedy boarding".

I booked my flights for PiPAU on Sunday, and chose smart+, which gave me up front seats and speedy boarding - I tried again just now, out of interest, and got the same? (It will then allow you to add hold bags too if needed).
Smart+
Sit up front, board early and bring a large cabin bag
Small under seat cabin bag
Keep your essentials close
Max 45x36x20cm
Large cabin bag
More space, less waiting in line
Max 56x45x25cm
Seat Selection
Pick your favourite spot
Upfront seats
Speedy Boarding

I crumble in the face of uncertainly and always book seats way in advance so I can’t help with your question. But given family circumstances I understand a smidge of why you are feeling so excited! It’s a long-held ambition to do one of their trips for me; I hope it’s everything you’re hoping for!!

So Smart+ is £53.23 each way per person, being a tight yorkshire man I just add a large cabin bag for £32 each way and take pot luck on my seats! Buying a large cabin bag used to get you speedy boarding included....

Is that the row that doesn’t recline (not big a deal) but often the overhead locker is already full with the crew’s carry on and oxygen bottle and often now doesn’t have a window?

Speedy Boarding, what a joke, so you get to sit on a cramped plane longer than necessary, well worth the extra dosh! Do you get to the destination any quicker?
