 Poster: A snowHead

Hello everyone,
Just joined this forum, a quick intro, I skiing alpine and Nordic in my teens and up when I served in the Army back then it was called Snow queen and was an Army instructor, only special people in the right circles could do the BASI quals, I left the forces and took up white water kayaking as I could not afford to ski anymore anyway after 20+ years I started to focus back on the Alpine skiing and now use all my annual leave to ski, mainly in Bavaria but started to go to France. This Jan I jumped on an open Level 2 alpine BASI course and was 1 of 2 of the only ones that passed there was other courses with gap year courses being assessed at the same time not sure what the pass rate was for those, anyway I felt I had what it takes to progress towards the next level, so hopefully bag a couple of modules this year towards level 3, in December I am doing the SKGB rep course which should help towards the Mountain Awareness level 3 basi. Anyway I am hooked and feel happiest in the mountains with like-minded people! Here to get info from those in the know.

@canoerichie, welcome to the forum. There are several instructors amongst us, though the majority are just folk who enjoy making their way down a mountain on skis, however inelegantly or otherwise. But all in all there is a huge pool of knowledge and expertise (not just in skiing) which we find supportive.
Have fun with your next winter's skiing.

Welcome @canoerichie to Snowheads.
There will be two Snowheads trips / bashes in Tignes le Lac while you're on the leaders course.
Pop over to Le Taos if you have the time and want to meet us.

Welcome.
Just FYI, as you mention the two things, the BASI L3 Mountain Safety course is a considerably lower level that the SCGB (I presume the K is a typo) reps course, in nearly all ways, with navigation being the only real exception. It's been a while for me on both of those courses, but snow understanding, avalanche risk assessment, transceiver use, multi-search are (or were when I was doing regular SCGB refreshers) all done to a real professional level, unlike the BASI which is really quite basic in those aspects.

@canoerichie, welcome to the mad house.
I'm a partial instructor, trying to move more towards being more of a partial accountant!
Here's my story so far if it's of any interest. I'm a season or two ahead in terms of exam progress having started back in 2022, and with the IASI qualification rather than BASI.

Good choice! Ifen is spectacular! Kleinwalsertal & Oberstdorf being next to the Arlberg area it's also pretty snow sure.
