 Poster: A snowHead
|
Looking at 2026, I have the following options still available for skiing with UCPA or Action Outdoors. I've seen reviews for a few of them but not an overall picture, hence posting them here to see if anyone has any insights.
This would be my first time skiing, or even spending extended time with snow. I'd be flying in, so & connectivity is also something I'm looking at.
UCPA:
1. Chamonix Valley Ski Area - Argentière (I saw that this is not ideal for beginners, that it's close to Geneva and that that hostel wasn't very sociable)
2. Two Alps Venosc (Les Alpes) - I saw this being recommended, but not the reasons why.
3. Valloire - couldn't find much information
4. Saint-Lary Soulan - couldn't find any information
Action Outdoors:
These had more presence online, but they are available in April and I was wondering if that would be too late in the year.
1. Les Arces
2. Val d'Isere

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@Riaa2311, Action Outdoors are the UK reseller of holidays with UCPA. I've never been on a UCPA ski holiday, but have friends who have and lots of people on here recommend them.
I'm not sure where you were looking for information on UCPA, but this page is probably a good place to start:
https://www.ucpa.co.uk/activities/snowsports/skiing/alpine-ski/
If you click on the "DATES & PRICES" button it will then let you filter by your ability (beginner) and the month you're interested in.
There will be plenty of people on here who will be able to tell you the pros and cons of each UCPA centre for a beginner.
If it's April you're interested in, the high resorts will be fine, and should still have Saturday coach transfers from Geneva (but make sure you check the transfer times before booking flights).

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I would always recommend learning the basics on the indoor slopes in the UK to get the most out of your trip away.

@Riaa2311, there are 2 of you posted on The Piste, looking for the same thing.... might be a good idea to join forces in your research and maybe even going together in a solo group.
To help with your research, check the resorts basic info and you will find % and a little paragraph on Beginners/Intermediate/Advanced. Filter on this first and drill into the detail from there

I always post before I've finished!!..... to add check where the accommodation is, it need to be near the lifts. A sure fire way to put you off will be getting to the lifts in the morning..... avoid long walks in ski boots. So I would rule out most of Austria (Q fans). France resorts will have the best ski in/out. Places like Les Arcs are perfect.
Use Google maps for accommodation location where can see the lift stations etc
Openskimap.org for the detailed lift / piste location
