Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best place to stay in the Verbier area

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We have five free days in the verbier 4valleys area as part of our season pass in chatel, to get the best out of skiing the various areas in the 4 valleys where would be the best place to stay ? Can do airbnb or hotel if sensible price, probably starting 7th feb, is switzerland as busy then as france will be ? If so we could come back in March

Sure someone way more knowledgable that me will come along on this one.

I took my 12 year old last year and we stayed in le chable and got the gondola up to Verbier each day. Accommodation was reasonably priced for the area IMO.

It was super easy to link with trains etc if that’s a consideration for you (was a big one for me).

When I looked to stay up in Verbier it was (as you’d expect) £££. You could maybe look at La tzoumaz or nendaz also.

I dont know to be honest need to check, we also have 5 in la rosiere, we had a similar deal with our chamonix passes but only used the odd day to single resorts rather than the five day ones, probably too good to be true

Personally, the choice for me would be the 4 Vallées satellites of La Tzoumaz or Nendaz. Being satellites, of course, these need you to spend 30-40 minutes on pistes/lifts to get to the hub of the ski area above Verbier. But the accommodation is cheaper as a result. Quite a few SnowHeads have also stayed down in the valley in Le Chable, where the gondola up into central Verbier runs from very early to late evening. None of these need you to use the car.

For La Tzoumaz, I’d take a look at the T-resort accommodation at the base of the télécabine, which is owned by the lift company Téléverbier, and one of the agencies like 4 Valleys 4 Seasons. The former is basic but comfortable group-type apartments often used by tour groups, and the latter would cover privately owned apartments, mostly within walking distance of the lift and centre.

Let me declare an interest here: our apartment is in La Tzoumaz, so I’m not implying anything negative about Nendaz or Le Chable. But I’ll leave others to cover them. Here are some useful links:

The La Tzoumaz official website
The T-Resort Apartments
4 Valleys 4 Seasons Rental Agency (select ‘All Destinations’ > La Tzoumaz)

Much of the accommodation is self-catering and there’s a large supermarket in the village, with butcher and bakery inside. There are various bars and restaurants but the place isn’t a clubbing mecca, like Verbier. The summit of this part of the domain is the Savoleyres station, which has a gondola up from La Tzoumaz and another up from the western side of Verbier. It’s about 55kms of pistes with a 10km toboggan run when conditions permit. Much of it is north-facing so tends to keep the snow better than lower south-facing slopes of Verbier. What many visitors do is spend the first day skiing around the Savoleyres sector and then go over to Verbier first thing in the morning, returning to the ‘home’ sector after lunch sometime.

One thing I’d say is that it’s something of a trek to go over from the hub to the Veysonnaz/Les Collons sector. Especially if you’re only there for a week or less. So if you stay in Nendaz or La Tzoumaz, you’ll tend to be skiing Verbier and your ‘home’ sector mostly. That said, there’s enough in Verbier and these satellites to last for a 2-week trip, let alone your shorter visit. In fact, your visit would be a great opportunity to see whether you’d like to return to ski the domain more extensively.

in recent years, we’ve tended to hire a locker in the T-Resort building and keep all our skis and boots etc there. If you’re in a nearby apt or chalet, it makes the transfer between your accommodation and the lift much easier, and you can also go for a drink or shop more comfortably directly after skiing. It’s about CHF 12 a day for a small locker that takes 3 sets of equipment. These are available from the ticket office when you buy your pass, and not to be confused with the daytime concierge service offered by the T-Resort operators.

For on-piste eating and drinks my favourite is the buvette Chez Simon down from the Savoleyres station. It’s a family run business and serves wine from their vineyards in the valley. The Savoleyres station is a fairly typical corporate type café/restaurant/bar but still pleasant and efficient, with cheaper options if you’re on a budget. The Croix de Coeur eatery is beside the helipad and somewhat more up-market, but you don’t have to spend a fortune in there, it’s not pretentious. The little gem is the Maison de La Foret buvette in a blue back to Etablons - small and cosy. There’s a big outdoor bar on the piste at the Etablons roundabout, where the free navette stops to collect tobogganists and pedestrians meeting up with skiers at the bar.

We’ll be returning to the UK on Feb 4 ahead of the school holidays. The week you’re going isn’t the busiest for school holidays. In any event, the area, especially La Tzoumaz, tends to be quieter than the rest and quieter than many French resorts in holiday weeks, all other things being equal.

@robs1, I think, back when Televerbier had a cross holding with Compagnie du Mont Blanc (or something like that ) I seem to recall we had unlimited use across both passes. But for sure the last few years it's been a day a week.

Check to see what's available at Siviez @robs1, as that's right in the centre of the North part of 4V.

Immediately and directly on meeting point of three different lift directions, it couldn't be easier to choose which way to go. Literally only a 2 lift move to top ridge of main Verbier slopes/access along with similar into Nendaz & Veysonnaz sectors.

Siviez, absolutely ideal to access so much skiing, usually at decent accommodation cost. It really couldn't be more convenient a location. Should be right in some of the bestsnow potential 7th February too.

i do not think its plays a role, since you have to go every do to the cashier to take a one-day-ticket.
If so, you can probably make a 5 consecutive days, but you will not become a 5-day ticket.

@turms2, it absolutely makes a difference with our pass as you can only use one day a week and obvs it's easy to monitor.

I'll just be surprised if it's very different for another not dissimilar area.

OK, colour me surprised. Certainly the Verbier pass gets you 5 consecutive days in the PdS and I presme terms are reciprocal.

So back to the OP's OQ,

I'd suggest staying at Le Chable as my strong perception is that it will be a lot cheaper than Verbier itself, and it's dead easy, just a single cabine connecting directly through Medran to wherever that then goes. We park at Le Chable when we visit.

And I think it runs into the evening enough to facilitate après ski beers at the Furry Shovel, or your bar of choice.

One advantage of Le Chable is that if it’s a busy Weekend day or Wednesday afternoon school sports day up in Verbier, you can take the gondola up to the Bruson ski area (the opposite side of the valley). This is quite nice and generally much quieter. Most people taking the trouble to drive and park at Le Chable on a Saturday are going to opt to go up to the main Verbier sector and beyond.

The same applies somewhat to the Savoleyres Sector, whether in Verbier or Le Chable. The knowledgeable tend to come over first thing, if they think the Verbier Sector is going to be crowded, or full of Saturday Nutters.

The other said we could do several days per week. Got to love the French

Stay in Le Chable. Free parking. Easy access to Verbier. And Gondola to Verbier open until midnight so you can still apres / eat up there if you want. Although Koti in Le Chable is also a good apres / dinner spot. And as above easy access to Bruson trees on a bad weather day

@robs1, depending on the make up of your group, I had this place for the whole of April 2023 and have it for another week March 26

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/793543069788343067?adults=1&search_mode=regular_search&check_in=2025-10-23&check_out=2025-10-28&children=0&infants=0&pets=0&source_impression_id=p3_1761045329_P3WSLrgYQ7a3ETf1&previous_page_section_name=1000&federated_search_id=2a278a39-097b-4a35-a00b-ba2df00c058f

I'd definitely recommend it. Lovely open living space/kitchen (proper kitchen not a French rabbit hole studio kitchen), a separate bedroom and decent sized shower room. Plus a nice terrace and the sunset directly opposite you. As you have the car, you're just 5 mins down the hill to the gondola at Le Chable.

Without wishing to be disparaging, the photo from out the front seems to show the Le Chable gondola building to be somewhat more than a walk away. Or is it nearer than it looks? It sounds like you had to use the car to get there/back, which might not work so well if the group is more than just a couple and perhaps is split. Just saying. Obviously, being within walking distance has its advantages but is likely to cost more.

I guessed a quick nip down the hill in the car would be no issue based on this. The exact location is here though:

@mountainaddict, yeah the smaller style French apartments with small kitchens are fine, and we also managed fine with those, but if you can have a really good sized kitchen/living space I'd pick that every day!

Yes, I did clock that. And I tried to be reasonable about it. I’m pointing out that a holiday without using the car might be preferable to having to use it, that’s all. And if they are in a group where some people might want to separate and come home early, or stay out later, then it may be more of a factor. Of course, you generally pay extra for the convenience of being close to the lift. And of course, some people couldn’t care less about a drive at the start and end of each day.

Yup.

Watching this thread with interest as we also have the PdS season pass, amd i fancy a Verbier trip. Its my wife's favourite resort, but she has an unhealthy love of Tortin.

She took me down it by mistake when I was an intermediate, many years ago when we were just dating. Our relationship nearly didn't survive the experience. I think I may have actually cried.

Good for her, as she sounds in possession of a decent taste for adventure. Very Happy

Skiing in a group there, a friend (who's an instructor and should know better) selected one of the itinerary routes that side for a brother and his friend, against group think sentiment!
Only to result in the inevitable ragdollling eventuality. Myself and another collector of resulting yard sale distribution, possessions and skis etc, then shepherding the two down ... took a while.

I really like that notthside of the ridge to ski and roam around, hence my suggestion of access via Siviez directly to there. Not often mentioned here, but Nedaz sector always appears underrated, but offering some very good skiing too.
