Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Avoriaz from December 13th?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I have provisionally booked accomodation for a week in Avoriaz from 13th December but have discovered that ski passes for this period are only available for the Avoriaz region, and the Portes du Soleil passes only from the 20th.

This is our first time to this region and so were keen to explore the whole PdS area. I have emailed the Ski pass support peeps to find out if sales for the PdS passes from the 13th will become available but haven't had a response yet. I assume it will be dependant on expected snow fall once they have a better idea?

Am wondering if:a) whether skiing in the Avoriaz area alone will be enough to satisfy 3 ski-hungry adult kids and husband for a week, b) Whether to switch to another resort (eg Val Thorens, where you can get 3 Valleys passes from 13th- though not sure if all slopes will be open anyway) or c) wait and hope for the best that the ski passes will become available from the 13th for whole PdS area ?

We're used to the Espace Killy and Paradiski areas during feb half term but now the kids are all at Uni we're trying to avoid school holidays, hence not so familiar with these edge-of-season nuances!

Any advice very welcome- thankyou! Little Angel Little Angel

On the official website it clearly states that Morzine and PdS will only open on December 20.

I just checked on their website the dates for very single resort, some might partially open starting with 13 if snow conditions will allow but I imagine (being France, too early before Christmas, signed working contracts starting with 20 etc.) that:
a. No unfortunately IMHO
b. Yes, enjoy this awesome area some January
c. You know well EK in Feb, going there in December will be quieter and so relaxed but might still disappoint you mileage related.
3V will definitely offer you more, choose wisely so you can stiil ski if the weather is harsh. Aka Les Menuires if you don't require Malaysia at midnight or Winter Cafe for munchies at 22:00.
Regarding EK mid December : I've done several PSB and PiPAU, mid December you can ski to Tignes 1800, Aiguille Percee should just open and Val d'Isere connection will work as well.
Time for something new.

Thanks @drporat. Les Menuires looks like a good option, Erna Low has added Alpes D’Huez into the mix too which opens 6th Dec, lowest interconnected resort is around 1200m so wondering about snow surety for this area but it looks like you can ski quite high- I’m not familiar so unsure. It’s also a closer drive which is a bonus. So it may just fall to finding the right accomodation as a decider. I'm such a bad procrastinator Puzzled

From the Chatel website we can see that they hope to get the links with Avoriaz open for the week of Dec 13th :

The ski area is scheduled to open as follows:
Saturday, December 6 and Sunday, December 7, 2025: opening of the Pré la Joux area.
Saturday, December 13 to Friday, December 19, 2025: partial opening of the Linga / Pré la Joux areas and connection to Avoriaz.

I would assume that you will be able to buy a pass that covers all of the open lifts at that time.
