I turned down a trip to China this week because I thought it was too far to go just for Haufa Bonski Snow World indoor snowboarding.
Me mates went anyway, and just posted a video.
It's maybe 95% snowboarders there. The riding starts about 30 seconds in.
I guess the locals weren't forced to go through the snowplough stage, so they just didn't.
Well why would anyone?

That's a pretty impressive facility. Guess the snowboarding uptake is what you get if you don't have a legacy alpine tradition. Probably contributes to overall safety as a lot harder to be a barely balancing meat missile on a board.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

That looks pretty cool. Interesting with the snowboarder thing - I see a lot of Chinese tourists at work over winter. Almost always snowboarders. There’s also usually a few season long ski racers and skimo teams, but the holidaymakers are nearly always on a snowboard.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Loads of my friends are back and forward over there running instructor courses, although apparently most people are just treating it as a kind of certification of being good at snowboarding rather than having any plans to teach. Interesting vibes, although the resorts are apparently pretty bleak.
Looks like a cool place. I’ve only really come across the Chinese on a couple of trips to Japan, and the ones I met seemed to be mainly skiers…….?

Their other videos are less busy; I'm not sure what's typical, will ask later. The line-ups didn't seem awful. Compare with Hemel, where the slope's often not busy, and you spend most of the time in a line-up. They may be still tuning the lift system.
Unless I'm reading it wrong, there are two slopes both of which run down to the lift complex in the middle of the building. There are a mix of magic carpets and chairs. All the slopes I've seen footage off look similar, so no bumps for example. Team Burton were mixing it with the local novices.

With that many learners, teaching might be good business too.
I saw [pictures of] the North Korean place and that looked bleak, so I can imagine. The real issue is... what's the snowfall like?

From looking at the early footage from people visiting, there certainly are skiers there, but they seem to be segregating it into skier and snowboarder areas. Hmm.

Here's a much less crowded short vid. Still all snowboarders.
The early video I saw was from some geeky skier who couldn't ski (!), so they're certainly there.
It might be segregated though - that would explain it.
Although there was a skier in the line up in the 1st video. I will double-check.
I just booked Iceland and Greenland, not sure if I can squeeze China in...
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

Are we ok to make jokes about any of the following?
Ski Jin Ping or Xi Jum Ping
The Little Shred Book

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Bring on the jokes.
I had a quick chat with the guy whose product they're out there building (and advertising).

They have a separate learning to ski area and a learning to snowboard area, but once everybody can do whatever they’re doing, they can all do it on the main slope.
But most people Snowboard because it’s cool. Which we know is absolutely correct.
The man who runs the mould making company is Mr Wu, and there have been some very bad jokes about that.
The product they're making had a pun in the name before, but it seems too have gone now, which is a shame https://www.prostandard.com/
You know it makes sense.

Is the pun in the description of fitting the unit? It continually refers to fitting the l’hiver (is it a really limp winter/lever pun?).
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

Yeah, that's the pun. They get worse. Greenland: "Arctic", looks like a horrid down day ratio. I'll be there in May I think.

@phil_w, that’s a couple of kiwi mates running that if it is Greenland heli. Great guys.

Here's Fawcett & Ach talking about the thing described above on Mark's channel.
There's some reminiscing in there but also some stuff from Kenny on why he uses Step Ons rather than straps.
Fawcett also rides Step Ons when no one's looking.
