Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

2002 Olympics x-country doping scandal finally resolved

 Poster: A snowHead

Two gold medals are being re-awarded by the IOC, two years after the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, as a result of a doping scandal which affected 5km and 30km cross-country ski races.

Christian Hoffmann wins Austria's first ever gold in cross-country (remarkable when one thinks of their regular domination of alpine skiing), and the Canadian skier Beckie Scott will also receive a gold - this month - following the disqualification of Olga Danilova of Russia.

Why on earth does it take so long to sort these things out...it must surely be a bit of an anticlimax to get a medal two years after the event? They will miss out on all the public adulation that would usually go with the first ever gold medal for a particular sport...

The controversy over Alain Baxter's placing was decided very quickly....even though I didn't like the decision!

Strange, because this case has been decided by the CAS, the same body to which Alain appealed. Alain's case took 8 months (final decision came in October 2002).

Actually, in the case of Becky Scott, I imagine it took so long because she was originally 3rd. There were two separate cases, Danilova and Lazutina, to process before Scott could be given the gold.

Here's a report on Beckie Scott's final award of the gold medal, at a ceremony in Vancouver (to be host city of the 2010 Winter Olympics), from SkiRacing.com.
