Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The climbing variety not lotions and potions.
I'm lucky enough to be going on a long trip to Japan in January. Recently nipped over to the Alps to pick up my and my sons ski gear as we won't be over before we leave on Boxing Day. Think I remembered everything apart from my skins....
I'll be there a month and plan on doing a little light skinning for turns among the lift served days so looks like I need to buy some sklns. I've always been a bit of a cheapskate with skins - buying whatever I can find on offer. These are for my side country set up (
Nordica
Enforcers and shifts) so won't be using them for hut to hut or 1000m days. DO I need to care what I buy? Any recommendations for skins that are genuinely better (probably in this context more about light weight / low bulk and grip rather than sliding efficiency I guess)?

@jedster
, I don't think it matters, I've used both generations of Black Crows skins on the trips I've done and they were fine. The later ones are traditional sticky as they seem to have moved away from the low tack hybrid jobs.
Edit - I just had a look to see who might have made them but I can't see anything. Looks like I used some
Dynastar
Pomoca Hybrids too. The only issue I found with the Pmoca was that the clips broke in very cold conditions but that was Europe.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We've used Pomoca in Japan for the last 8 years (
K2
before that) with no problems.
Japan conditions are ge generally quite forgiving for skins as there is enough snow and space to get the gradient and grip you want so basically, any will do.
Careful if you go glueless though as you might put skins on a few times a day and the glue less must be kept very dry.
