Afternoon. I'm not going until Easter but looking forward to a ski trip is literally my favourite thing to do. After actually being on a ski trip.
On a previous trip, I hired a gopro from envirorentals for a week. It was fab but I only used it a couple of days because id rather be skiing than worrying about filming stuff. But it was nice to get a couple videos of my kids (although video evidence of them skiing so much better than me these days not so much!). We are going for longer than a week this time so is quite spendy to rent when im only going to use it a couple of times.
Does anyone know anywhere (preferably in VC but le Lac would work too) where they hire out gopros (or equivalent) for the day?

Bets on anyone completing an October descent of Double M? Looking at the cams the crash pads have been installed suggesting that the lift company must think that skiers in the near future are a possibility

Note from webcams they have wheeled out a couple of pistebashers near the bottom of the Tichot lift. Implies they think can utilise the fall. Looks like another 15cm later today and perhaps 25-30cm on Monday. Remember similar late October fall pre-covid. If memory serves it never really went away above about 2300m

The IndigoNeo website for booking car parking in Tignes has become even more (less) intuitive/user friendly.
There is no longer a button "Reserve parking space" that then asks you to provide all the necessary information for your planned visit.
Instead, you now have to realise that you have to first adjust the dates at the top of the map such that they correspond to your planned arrival & departure. By default they are the current date, which of course, cannot be booked in advance - so no button appears to do so. Every car park button you click on simply gives you more information, but doesn't give you a clue how to reserve a space. There is an additional button that tells you that you can just turn up and pay or that you can reserve in advance. If you then click on this, and then the 'reservation' button that appears, you just get sent back to the beginning.
ONLY, once you've specified a future date range (of at least 5 days' duration), can you then proceed to the reservation process.
God knows how many millions they spent on a usability/UX design consultancy firm for such an improvement.

Just been digging about on the Tignes web site and found this... https://www.skipass-tignes.com/fr/horaires-points-de-vente
Assuming it's accurate, the Les Bosses lift pass office isn't due to open till 20th December, which I suspect means the runs down to 1800, Bosses and Brevieres won't open till then either.

@Judwin, Unfortunately that’s been the case the past few seasons.
It’s not a snow issue but more the work contracts for staff which don’t start until then in that area.

@Mark1863, @muppet, Yeah, I know, but difficult to extract exact dates from the lift co as to when that (or any) sector is planned to open. IME the Chaudannes usually starts turning on the Wednesday or Thursday in the week before Xmas, and Aguille Rouge and Aguille Percy opens at the same time. However, with Xmas day being a Thursday this year, and Friday next year I suspected things would get pushed back by a week.
It means Sache isn't accessible on the PSB or PiPAU weeks unless you fancy a long yomp.

@bobski62, jolly good. May I suggest a minor tweak to your info:
From:
"Another quirk is that if you want to book as space for your visit, the first thing you have to do is set the dates for your stay right at the top, then your prices and options are displayed down the left hand-side. If you try to do it in any other sequence it won't play ball."

I've tweaked it, thanks @Crosbie. The Tignes location thing is a little subtle as it's pre-selected if you get there via the Tignes parking webpage.

That harbinger of the season .... removing the netting around the lakeside tennis courts began today. A container full of tyres appears to be nearby as well.. they put them on the courts to protect the surface. 4 weeks to go fo me.
Anyone know what the work being done next to the Rosset is?

Another sign that winter is here: the route des ruines from Brev to 1800 was closed for the season. Hopefully it will be the Myrtilles piste very soon.

Somebody somewhere (maybe the PSB Thread) was asking if the Arbina was going to be open this season in Lac. The answer would appear to be No. The Mairie has just issued an invitation to tender to set up an outdoor hospitality site on the terrace in front of it. The blurb says that it will have to be self contained as there is no water or electricity supply and alcohol can only be served with food (I think) so presumably some sort of burger van with disposable glasses etc.
I did see a few folks on the Double M chair this morning, workers, punters or club racers I’m not sure.

Perhaps it's an opportunity for Snowheads in conjunction with Montagnettes to acquire Hotel Arbina to trial an all-season Bash?
Some rooms sold at market rate to all-comers, some allocated for Snowheads.

Just browsing webcams, and it looks like they've taken out the Col drag up to the Col d'Iseran and it's not on the piste map now, I'm sure it was still there last year but can't find last years piste map.

@stevew, the old Col twin drags have apparently been made redundant by the new (and much better!) Vallon bubble, but it does mean you have to go down to to the top of the cable car if you come over the up and over or use the Pyramids chair with the intention of going up to the glacier. The new bubble is nicer and faster, but the loss of the Col does reduce options a little.

@stevew, it was still there last year as they needed to until the new Vallon gondola opened around Christmas week.
The plan was always for it to be removed.

@Ski lots, I didn't think you could get to the glacier from the Pyramids chair on piste?

@stevew, you could via the Col, but it involved a long tucked shuss often with a bit of a walk if conditions (or your nerve) were not optimal.

I find the Le Fornet main bowl really cold in early season Prefer to use it in Spring when sun is higher. The run down from top of Pyramids down to the drag was little used but was a good alternative if you got to the Grand Vallon and found it was not to your liking. Think ideally they would put a drag up to the top of the Vallon gondola from the Up-n-over, Basically following the piste from the station to the Up-n-over.

We were in Val Claret last Easter (returning again in 2026, and in VT for Easter 3 x years previously), lift queues are generally fine with maybe one or two longer waits here and there but nothing like half term. Lower slopes can feel quite busy in the afternoon as the slush gets the better of all the beginner skiers but if you avoid the blues where possible that's less of an issue.
