@peter w, Did you 'ave to lick pistes clean with tha tongue?
@bobski62, I wonder if they did that when they shortened it at the top - at least that meant it is open for longer and your are not traversing under those scary cornices

I've spotted skiers on the glacier yesterday, are some national teams using it? And then seems like they have the safety padding on Double M right to the bottom and nicely pisted

Such a shame they've stopped opening for autumn skiing on the Grande Motte....

Another vote here for La Ferme des 3 Capucines - but - book stupidly early (like right now, if they are answering the phone) as they are always fully booked weeks in advance. I've always enjoyed Brasero, opposite Que de Cochon, for something less formal and you can usually get booked in with a week to go.

They were still trucking up material and grading that area in October before the first snowfall. It’s odd that they can’t move around the terrain that’s already there but maybe that’s a national park restriction so they have to truck it up there.

We love La ferme des 3 capucine, although only been for lunch. They do the annoying French thing of last orders at 1.30, but we forgive them for good value proper food and being locals not corporate pirates.
I'll go against the grain and say we thought Niurou poor VFM. Very expensive for average meat.
I'll add a "should avoid" just for a laugh, L'Escale Blanche. Possibly the best restaurant location in Tignes, and lordy don't they milk it. It's like their menu strategy was "what's the maximum we can charge for each item and get away with it?". Service very much hit and miss. A great shame as it used to be very good.

@Dr John, I agree on the Escale Blanche but a close second is “The Instagram Cafe’ aka Coeur de Neige. Over priced and too image conscious. None of the locals shed a tear when it was closed down 2 years ago by the Prefect for not paying the staff.

@chocksaway, also agree on CdN, even in summer it was a rip-off. Didn't it also have to close early in the season a while ago for being a noise polluter, or similar? Anything exciting in it's place this year?

@willhanson,
We used them this year and they were amazing, went out of their way to help us and they've got some decent gear.
We're going back to Tignes for Easter 2026 and will absolutely use them again.

what a fantastic resource, thank you all. A few questions:
- is the only XC playground the one at the top of Val d'Isere?
- does anyone know of any summits that can be snowshoed or solo climbed in the area? [unroped solo climbing, and I am not very brave]
- any recommendations for a local mountain guide to do some routes in the area?
thanks

@Dr John, That was the rumour the owner put out to avoid scrutiny of not paying the staff. Unfortunately many other resto owners knew the full story.
@wittenham, By XC do you mean Nordic/ski du fond. If so they put a number of tracks on the Lake in Tignes Le Lac (once it’s frozen ).
All the big peaks are quite pointy so probably not, though a trip up to the Eye of The Needle (2800m) would be doable off the side of the piste.
Anybody at the Bureau de Guides would be fine. Or if you want instruction whilst skiing a far distance off piste - Kev Herbert - link on page 1.

Hi @wittenham, theXC tracks in Tignes that go around the east side of the lake, underneath "The Fingers / Les Tufs" are OK, but shared with walkers so worth getting on them early before the footfall chews them up.
In Val d'Isere, as you may have spotted, the best tracks are in the Manchet valley and are segregated. But realistically you'd need a car to access them. The is a car park (free for the first hour) as you come into the area.
Also worth a look is the loop around the lake top of Solaise - but not only do you have to get to Val, you'll also need a ticket for the gondola ride up and down.
Finally, there is a loop in Les Brevieres but it's only a couple of km and you'd need bus and gondola to get there.

@willhanson,
I go to Tignes Spirit for my ski service. Even though a bus ride from where I stay. Too lazy to do it myself when in resort. Always do a good job unlike any of the places up in Lac, that I have tried to my cost in previous years. They all seem to forget to de-tune the ends.

Top of Bellevarde is short but fun. You could also go right up to the top of Aguille Pers or the top of Pisteurs' Couloir on Rocher du Charvet iirc.

Depending on cover the initial pitch up to Charvet can be a tricky and undignified scramble, in front of of a large audience unloading from Grand Pres lift. Although the 360 view is spectacular once you're up there.

Agreed. Should be easier going up in snow shoes / walking boots vs ski boots though. That said, he's got to get back down it also. Probably easier than Pisteurs' though.

I know parking is covered on this post, but have a question or two
We've booked a place in the Bollin building, but I need to sort parking. IndigoNeo parking now seems to be available and currently shows three options - Grande Motte, Golf, and Tufs.
The first two fair enough, they're covered in detail on the Parking Post. Some of the options on the Parking Post are not listed in the IndigoNeo website.
Tufs, though, is not covered on that post. I suspect it maybe a space in the Tufs building - or is it? I don't even know if it's covered or not. It's a lot closer than the Golf parking though. Ahy feedback on which I should go for? Both come out at the same price (first week of April). We're only driving up from Ste Foy so can arrive early ish, or ski in SF and arrive later

@nbt, I think Tufs is the name of the new car park further up the road from the Golf parking. But as it was still being built when we left it’s a bit tricky to be precise. But it’s on the mountain side of the road!

@chocksaway, right, that makes sense - it's under the Tufs lift, the one listed as Boucle Sud on Bob's post. You can see it being built on Google Streetview

Thanks Dr John, sounds interesting, I will try to get hold of a topo map and have a look. I can rock/mountain/ice climb, but not particularly keen to solo anything too far out.

Morning all, anyone recommend a suitable nice restaurant in Tignes for a nice meal. Have a wedding anniversary next 30th December and previously we have ended up at Le Garage in Val but this year we have opted for Tignes for the same weekend. Anyone recommend something on that vibe in Tignes, we are in Val Claret but happy to get the bus somewhere.

We went there for the first time in years last winter and really enjoyed it. Excellent pizza and tartiflette in lovely surroundings, no issues with service and prices didn't strike me as much different to elsewhere in Tignes.

Hi @nbt, I have had a look and checked. The pin on the Indigo website map places the Tufs carpark in the middle of where they push all the snow from road clearing but the address is listed as Route du Golf, so it does look likely that Tufs is the new name for the new carpark where Boucle Sud used to be. I've made an update, thanks for drawing attention.
I also noticed that it has a quoted height restriction of 2.3m - rather than the universal 1.9m that they used to state. They seem to have updated all the headroom heights now, but not all of them look strictly accurate... I guess it's a step forward though.

And while I'm logged on, I can chip in on L'Escale Blanche. I've always found the prices to be mid-range and the service to be courteous and efficient. They generally try to squeeze in two sittings for dinner which probably gives an incentive to get the food out quickly for diners. Probably not top of my list for a special night out but happy enough to patronise it on occasion.
