The Skiing Doo, one of Aviemore's oldest restaurants and bars which opened in 1981 has now closed, with the owner blaming rising costs and difficulty of finding staff. I've eaten there several times in past years, and in years gone by it was certainly one of Aviemore's popular apres ski venues, with the walls decorated with an eclectic mix of skiing related items. I seem to recall one of the starter options used to be flambéed Haggis.
I was going to say it's the end of an era, however the current owner says that it may not be, as he thinks it could re-open with new owners in a few months time
I'm sure some sHs who have visited Aviemore will be familiar with the Skiing Doo, let's hope it can continue in some form.

I'm sad to say I've never eaten in the restaurant, but spent many many nights in the Doo below. Sorry to see it succumb like so many others , but these things are cyclical, and hopefully it can get new owners and a new lease of life.
Perhaps the rumoured gentrification of the Cairngorm Hotel bar might have pushed a few more punters their way ?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It's demise no doubt another casualty caused by the incompetence on the mountain and the funicular reducing visitor numbers?

The Doo bar was ok, but I've always preferred The Bridge Inn.
I was up in Aviemore with my son, walking and MTB a couple months back and all the bars and restaurants were rammed.
It's far busier in the summer than winter now.

There’s rarely snow with climate change.

I prefer the Bridge too, but generally when I've rented up there I've been at the other end of the village and its a fair hike to the Bridge .
I find the Balavuillin to be pretty good too, much prefer it to the Winky too.
I'd heard from an acquaintance that works up there that the new owners of the Cairngorm were attempting to push the bar prices towards £7 a pint , in the same vein as the Fyfe arms in Braemar. (and losing customers and staff hand over fist).

I liked the Doo-below.
Some great ski memorabilia on the wall and long history / heritage.
Always felt more like an Aviemore locals bar.
Traditionally where the ski instructors used to drink back in the day.
Sad to see it go. But have to admit not been for ages (and therein lies the problem).
The bar is hidden down behind the shopping centre so easy to forget it is there.
I am pretty sure someone will take the restaurant part of business on given high street location.

I stopped in last season to try and get food, and there was a notice up saying they weren’t serving food any more and it was just going to be drinks/ bar.
always a shame, but it’s catch 22- the restaurant obviously wasn’t making enough to make it worthwhile, so they reduced to just bar/ drinks, which made it even less sustainable.

We've always though of the Pinemarten as the 'apres' bar for the area though you're usually driving when you go past - at least in the winter. Whilst it's a real shame to see the Doo go, like a lot of others we rarely used it in town. Always found the location a bit odd.

There's a bit going in that parade, black isle bought the chinese buffet, well sort of except they won't leave, i heard the owners of the chinese were looking at going to where the Doo is hence perhaps that being the push to close ? Who knows, all local gossip. Cairngorm hotel has indeed had a bit of a 'change', staff who were previously well looked after, possibly too well, have all left under new owners (who also own the Boat hotel which was great and is now pish) and prices have ramped up somewhat. Still lots of nice places like the OBI, Bala, Owl and further afield like the Cairn in Carrbridge and Pine Martin out at Glenmore.

@Haggis_Trap, From the article you linked to:
Mr Lawson told the Strathy: “I am delighted that The Skiing Doo will be continuing as normal with The Doo Below and serving the burgers, steaks and Tex-Mex food is has become synonymous with over the many years."
Good news indeed!
