Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@red, The train takes about 2 hrs - including the bus from the airport to Innsbruck train station and costs about €20 one way.
If you're arriving during the day it's an easy journey. Bus from the airport to the station, train from Innsbruck to Jenbach, local train from Jenbach to Mayrhofen.

That's a big improvement alright, looks cold crisp and white and a respectable 21k open per the website. Maybe closing in August was a good idea.

We were at work today on Spieljoch. There weren't many tourists around. Laughing The top of the gondola at Spieljoch is 1850m. It was snowing there quite heavily just now.
It's too early for it to stay but it's nice to see and it will definitely be good for Hintertux.

@swskier, Thank you Laughing I was going to suggest that you did.

Work was quiet... Nobody wanted anything from us, though there was a surprising number of people who came up to look at the snow and play in it around the building.

Hi, because its always such a traffic jam on the Brettfall Tunnel in the morning i want to arrive already in the night (maybe from 21:00 o clock) before with my camper and stay the night on the Hintertux Parking lot. I dont want to stay several days, only the night before skiing / boarding. Will it be a problem?

@DaHopi, plenty of people stay in the car park at Hintertux, you're unlikely to have any issues. I did exactly that back in Easter 2023 when I was in the area for a day.

@swskier, thanks! I've heard rumors that they want to penalize 'camping' - but I don't actually want to camp - just go for wintersports for 1 day...

Officially there's been a ban on overnight parking in Hintertux since January 2025. I've no idea if they are enforcing it.

It didn't look like it was being enforced when we skied there in mid-May - there were loads of vans there that looked like they were parked up for overnight stays.

Hi guys. Not strictly a snow report question, but I'm sure you would be happy to help.

Considering Mayrhofen for NY, 27th/28th for a week. I obviously know it's part of the Zillertal area, but how busy is it likely to be in broad terms of getting up and on the slopes, and then back again? Looking at Mayrhofen itself, two lifts out to two separate areas. Then of course accessing the other areas by maybe a bus and I think a train?

My assumption is it's going to be busy, but I may be wrong. Any advice or shared experience please? I prefer, broadly at least, to not have too much of a faff in the morning. I accept it will be a busy week in all places, but what I'm trying to gauge is how it stacks up in general against other resorts/areas. TIA.

@Boofont, with Mayrhofen, you've also got a short bus ride up to Finkenberg for the lift there, or another short bus to the Horbergbahn. Both of those give access to the same main Mayrhofen ski area, but gets you away from the lift in the centre of town.

The longest I queued around that time of the year at Horbergbahn was around 10 minutes.

You're picking one of the busiest weeks of the entire year, so it will definitely be busy.

@swskier, thanks, that's very helpful. It's going to be busy everywhere to be honest but 10 mins isn't that bad. Can I assume once away from the valley floor things tend to "normalise"?

I've heard many good things said about both Mayrhofen and the Zillertal area so it's a place I'd like to visit that's for sure.

@Boofont, there's the usual bottle necks as you'd expect anywhere, but it's ok once you get going. You won't find it any busier than anywhere else you would ski during that time.

If you get yourself to the extremes of the area it'll be quieter. The black run down to the Mösslbahn gondola on the right hand side of the piste map is great. Always quite and a lovely run. Or get yourself over to Eggalm and it'll be quieter too.

If you want a particularly quiet experience, check out the tiny area up at Gerlosstein. Old school lifts, and 7 runs, but it's never busy. They get more people heading up there for tobogganing than they do skiers.

@swskier, great stuff. If we head there (myself and a couple of other SH's at the mo, @simon... and @Markscotski) I shall drop a post. I notice your location states "Zillertal" so perhaps a meet up can be planned if you or anyone else is around.

Thanks once again! Very Happy snowHead

@8611, it's lovely here currently, yesterday was also. It's warming up currently and we'll see high teens in the valley (650m) by Friday, but the last few days have been quite cold. We walked the dog in Hochfügen on Sunday and it only ever reached a high of 3 degrees in the car park there at 1500m. Even a some light snow while we walked.

From my desk I can see the slopes of Zillertal arena and they're starting to get filled with snow.

You can see the Spieljochbahn station right by us and then the slopes in the distance.

Winter is most definitely coming!
