@Bülow,
Definitely go - it’s not over busy - and with the snow falling it will be amazing
Plus a lot of snow has fallen to low levels so everyone will be able to spread out

Not a lot of visibility up in VT right now, is it any better in the other valleys or down in Les Menuires?

Strongly considering a last minute trip (Val T) but if its too way crowded i might pass. |
Most visitors arrive on Saturday, France's established "change-over day."

In my experience it can be relatively quiet with good snow conditions. If you can arrive and depart on Sunday then you will avoid any heavy traffic.

Plus get out early on the slopes each day. Quite a few seem to have leisurely breakfasts or attend ski school - so beat them to the slopes early doors!

Conditions really good for April (in fact good for any time of year). For those out at Easter, looks as though a great time but dont expect T shirt skiing !

@Layne, What’s wrong with both? Lovely largely empty pistes from Menuires to Courchevel today. On piste the snow cover is the best we have seen for years.

Nightmare visibility at times today and fell over twice from standing not realising which way was up (I know but it happens- at least to me to mass hilarity from the kids!) but lovely snow. Tomorrow not looking so great.

I wouldn't expect it to be particulalry busy. IIRC the school holidays don't start until good Friday and even then it is only one region. It's been quite quiet here in Les Arcs last week and a walk around the village showed the curtains drawn on many apartments. As it is a national holiday on the 6th. it may be slightly more busy that week but I doubt it.

VT horribly busy at times yesterday, hordes of beginners and big groups clogging local slopes. The journey to meribel was much clearer, but all home runs are as bad as I have ever seen.
Maybe the white outs were keeping people in the same area.

In Les Menuires and got a solo day either tomorrow or Thursday. Was thinking of trying to get the escapade done.
La Masse first or last? It’s that or straight on Reberty.

Was down it by 9:25 this morning after dropping the small one at ski school. It was bleak at the top half so can get down it quicker when I can see where I’m going

Excellent conditions in Meribel and Couchevel on Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd. We have skied here many times and this is about the best Easter snow for many years. Just arrived on Tuesday evening so we missed the very cold weather over last weekend. Pistes in great condition especially black runs which have been groomed. Pistes wider than normal due to all the snow and its quiet and sunny with virtually no queues.

@mogulski, agree on the conditions for the time of year, it’s fantastic.
Skied col du vallon yesterday and the day before- knee deep fluffy powder both times, still only about 20 tracks, I think the long walk out puts people off. Also did Col du Fruit SW face yesterday which was fun but the snow is getting sticky.

Out of interest where would you ski in the Belleville valley if via was poor or snowing heavily?

Not skied the Belleville valley yet this trip as we get free ski passes for Meribel and Courchevelle but have to pay for Belleville. Its only 25% of the cost so 20 euros for the day - cos we are oldies. Will go over there in the next few days but enjoying the freebies at the moment.
Tetras black on Col de loze has been great but today there are a few stones coming through so it may shut soon as it is often closed. About as good as it gets at the moment. Face had soft bumps this morning and we skied Campagnol now a black off Vallon.
Need to watch what is open next week as some lifts and pistes are closing for end of season although there is still lots of snow (at the moment) but temps of 15 degrees coming...
Don't undrestand the long walk out from Combe de Vallon comment. You normally just take Mures Rouges and Plan des Mains out. I haven't skied Ours back to Mottaret for years.

@mogulski, Col du vallon, not Combe- turn right off the Combe over the Col. Through the permitted passage in the nature reserve, same eventual exit as Col du Fruit.

Hello. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place to stay in Meribel/Courchevel for 3 or 4 weeks next year? For context,we have been coming to Les Arcs 1950 for many years, but fancy a change. What we'd be looking for is:
- a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment, with kitchen/living area etc. Decent size
- self catering, not catered
- ski in/ski out
- easy parking
- preferably something with a balcony/views
- preferably in a complex with an outdoor pool plus gym
We love the family/village-y atmosphere of Arc1950, so anything that replicates that feeling would be great.
Anyone any thoughts?

Just arrived after an incredible week in Les Arcs, and feeling very spoiled!
We're in Val Thorens and it's warm. Trying to work out how to make the most of the next 3 days based on conditions and three strong skiers.
How are the lower areas holding up? Worth the full pass for a trip over to Mottaret, Mont Vallon and Saulire?
I also like a little leg stretch. Does anyone who tours know if this is 'open' and ok to do solo? I'll pop in to the pisteurs hut near the magic carpet for advice.
https://www.valthorens.com/randonnee/itineraire-de-ski-de-randonnee-grande-sud/
If off piste is still in condition, I have avvy gear and skins and up for joining a guide or meeting up if anyone is interested.

First time at VT tomorrow. Done A2H and L2A at this time of year.
Anyone have any idea how busy will it be?
Looks like fresh snow is on its way as well. Start of the week doesn’t look like spring snow conditions.

@SCruttonStreet, meeting all of those is probably challenging. If ski in / out is more important perhaps look at Mottaret, which also has the relatively small / village-y vibe.

+ 1 vote for Mottaret, as ski in ski out & dead centre
Les Men is generally good for Ski in Ski out.
La Tania has a lovely alpine feel to it nestled in the trees.

Just back from Meribel Les Allues. It was a great week - excellent spring snow conditions. We covered most of the 3V although not sure we covered the whole piste map from side to side. A few lower runs were closed on arrival but the stuff higher up was excellent. I even got over my aversion to black runs which started a couple of years ago - I just got it in my mind that I couldn't do them, although I didn't attempt any of the really challenging ones either!!! Great atmosphere and I think we'll be back again - maybe not Les Allues but one of the other areas in the 3V.
Le Rond Point was excellent and good fun. The VT Folie was okay - but not really my thing, they seemed to like spraying champagne on the crowd a little too much... Good music though.
Food was excellent and will do a proper write up in the trips area here later on.
We skied about 235km which was good for us and taking the afternoon conditions into consideration. Did a morning ski lesson with an ESF instructor who used to be an Alpine ski racer - someone joked about my youngest son not overtaking the instructor in the lesson - that was never going to happen as he was rapid!!
