Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@Skyeblue39, not sure if Tyrol does fondue but it's a good restaurant worth checking out. It's always busy, worth booking, and goodish value, as much as you get in a ski resort.

Not in resort but Chatel website warning about road to Pre La Joux being open for buses only has now gone, so can assume it’s clear for punters? (Due to rockfall last month in case anyone unaware). Anyone there able to confirm?

@jonnycox6, There was an earlier announcement last week, but now, from the Chatel mairie facebook page https://www.facebook.com/mairiechatel

"Effective Wednesday, March 11, 2026, by municipal decree, traffic on the RD 228a, Route de Pré-la-Joux, is reopened with alternating one-way traffic controlled by traffic lights supplemented by a flashing stop light.
Automatic barriers will be installed at the edges of the at-risk area, known as "Très-les-Pierres," within a few days.
Road users are asked to strictly adhere to the regulatory signage in place. Traffic controls will be implemented.
Parking and pedestrian access are prohibited in the area.
Residents of evacuated accommodations are still not permitted to return.
Finally, access to the footpaths within the area remains prohibited."

I'm about to book a week at Morzine for the last week of the season. Actually 10th to 17th April so the last week of Avoriaz, when Morzine will already be closed.

I'm doing this to compensate my non skiing wife as there's a bit more to do/see down in Morzine. Am I in for a world of pain getting the lifts up each morning if Zore is non skiiable?

Thanks as always.

We did this last season. Stayed next to Prodains.

We could get lift up to Avoriaz for ski lessons, get up and down at night for restaurants and my wife get direct bus to Morzine town to wonder about durning the day. Bus frequency was fine.

Doing same again this season however 2 weeks earlier.

Yes. Morzine was closed. Few restaurants and bars had also closed but the majority was open.

Bus frequency was fine for wife to go to town whilst we skid AvoriAz. We also went out for dinner in Morzine 3 or 4 nights got bus there and back.

The few restaurants next to Prodains had already closed.

Just wanted to give a little shout-out for one of the smaller areas in the PdS - Crêt Béni, at La Chapelle d'Abondance. Been aware of it for years but never actually skied there, just didn't seem worth the effort of the 20 minute drive over.

Finally did it yesterday with some friends that live over that way, on a day where the snowfall got more intense through the morning but the freezing level was lower than anticipated.

With just four lifts (OK, a couple more beginners' ones) and only going up to 1630, I'd taken my slalom skis not really expecting much, but it turned out to be some of the best skiing of the season, making fresh tracks much of the time, with only a few people around, especially once the four or five Ski School kids' groups had stopped at lunch time. All below the tree line, of course, so a perfect choice for what would have been a very low-vis day higher up the mountain.

Little gem of a place on a day like that, thoroughly recommended. And I'm now re-evaluatiing my ski choice - enjoyed it so much on my skinny skis, just as long as I kept up the speed they were more than up to the job, on 20cm of fresh snow, and at one point where my mates, all good skiers, on fattish all-mountain skis, said it was starting to get a bit heavy I had to say that I genuinely had not noticed. Makes me wonder, do I really need fat skis? snowHead

@Chaletbeauroc, its a cracking area, especially if the red home run is open
Always quiet and usually well prepared. We regularly have a day over there, especially on a sunny day with a picnic just over the back of the top chair.

It wasn't, we had to come down the green. At one point where the green run starts we did drop down a cut across to it over virgin snow, which was great to ski on, once. All of us uncovered the grass beneath it, no base whatsoever, so the idea of doing the lower red sections was not on the cards, even though they were all completely snow covered.

Unsure if this is the place to ask-

I am a snowboarder (45 yo male) staying at Mil 8 Avoriaz. Friends leave early Sunday 22nd March and I have the whole day on the mountain.

If anyone fancies meeting up for a few runs please let me know.

I can get down anything at a decent pace and would love to get in a full day doing the KM’s.

Hi snowhead friends,
Me and a couple of mates are in Chatel for a week from Saturday 21st if anyone's around.
(2 skiers, one boarder)

It's our first time in both Chatel and the PDS, so any tips on where to go and any good bits are very much appreciated.

...and if you fancy joining us for a day or whatever, pop me a DM Smile

Apologies as I am sure this has been discussed on this thread at other points, but I am looking for a relatively cheap shared transfer to Avoriaz from Geneva chaosport. Are there any Snowheads with experiences with Alpine Fleet? The site says the bus drops at the Avoriaz Welcome point. Its a 5pm arrival into Geneva on Saturday 21st March, looks like there are 3 services up to Avoriaz..6pm, 7pm, 8.30...so wondered which would be best to book onto given EES delays(we have no luggage to collect). Any views? Thanks in anticipation.

Hi! Coming back out to Avoriaz next Friday for the week before Easter.

Just taking 2 of my kids as my middle child has elected to stay home and revise for A-levels… which means my wife is staying home to look after him.

I did similar when it was GCSE’s but stayed in Flaine.

A particular good end to our day, was to head to a bar in Flaine which as well as serving a cold beer (for me) also sold an ice cream sundae which kept the kids happy.

Are there any bars in Avoriaz where I could do similar?

(Fully aware that many places may do a crepe but we are very likely to have already had our daily allowance of crepe on the mountain at mid morning coffee time)

Apres drinks of choice on previous trips in Avo has been at La Cabane for a more leisurely and relaxing post ski beer.

An ice cream sundae, aka dame blanche, is one of the most ubiquitous desserts in France.

I'd expect just about any cafe would have it in Avoriaz, but oddly La Cabane doesn't. They'd probably knock one up for you if you asked or go across the road to the fontaines blanches. It's on the menu there under ice creams.

The flash sale date has also been set: https://en.portesdusoleil.com/portes-du-soleil-lift-passes/book-my-winter-pass/season-flash-sales/
This is the lowest price for the season, and a similar offer never reappeared at a later date in the previous 4 seasons.

The private sale info is sent by the ticket office automatically for previous season pass owners.

I'm sure you could sign up for newsletters but that's pretty much it on the season pass offers. Some discounts for adult+ kid passes come around later although I can't comment on the value proposition as it's not relevant for me.

The Private sale is only available for existing season ticket holders, so the invite is sent to them only and cannot be used by anyone else.

Previous seasons have also had an 'early bird/flash sale' offer in Early April. Was just chatting to a mate in the UK, who got his that way last year, cost him £604, around chf680, compared with chf570 for the renewal this year.
