Checking in. Missed that there was a new thread. Our Les Arcs trip is back to Easter for this upcoming season. But this time we've got family coming too, for their first ever ski trip.
My sister-in-law texted me yesterday to say she'd bought passes and ski school and was going for a walk to recover.
I think I'm just numb to it now.

Reposting from the 24/25 thread (apologies for double post).
I'm doing a season in the paradiski, based in BSM. I don't walk to walk to the funicular in my boots every day and sometimes its very icy and I took a few tumbles last year doing the march of the penguins...
Intersport said they were full (which I'm not sure i believe) regarding seasonal lockers, and their daily rate of 7 quid is not suitable for a full season.
I am considering simply stashing my trainers at the funi station (e.g., under a bench).
Does anyone have any other suggestions / experience in this regard?
Cheers!

@AlIre2024, not much I can impart direct knowledge wise except to say stashing the shoes under a bench is what I would do.
However, where are you leaving your skis?

@Layne, Thanks! I bring my skis back to my flat every evening and carry down in the morning. Its OK if not wearing ski boots as you avoid the slip sliding / damaging the soles.

@wills_h, you could try Hotel l'Autantic https://www.autantic.fr/uk/ - just at the top of the N90 hill going down into Bourg - stayed there a couple of times, once doing what you're planning, once for a few days. Only serve Breakfast, but close enough to walk into the town restaurants.

Hi Les Arcs experts!
We might be staying in Vallandry a week in Jan. I've read that there is more apres in Arc 1800. My question is if it's possible to ski from Arc 1800 to Vallandry after apres? From looking at the map it seems as if it's possible from Folie Douce, but if drinking at the bars in the village one would have to treck up the mountain quite a bit before being able to ski back to Vallandry.
Are my observations correct?
How long is the Villards lift usually open? It seems as if that lift would solve the problem if it's open long enough.
Thanks!

@Taking_the_piste, yes, it’s possible to ski to Vallandry from the Folie. You have to walk up the slope a bit, to the top of the gondola, then ski across the pistes (Belvedere I think) to join to final section of the Foret piste. The walk up the slope is very easy, 100m virtually flat.

Thanks! Much appreciated!
I take it that if apresing at one of the bars in the village the treck would be quite long? Do you know for how long the gondola is open in the evening?

It definitely would! Great news for Vallandry!
Are there any drawbacks I should be aware of regarding Vallandry? I know the apres scene is quieter, but there seems to be a handful of restaurants which should last the week. I seem to be able to reach the Arc 2000 bowl in just 2 lifts. Seems quick to get to La Plagne.
Am I missing something, or is it a decent choice? We are middle aged and won't be out partying.
I am pleasantly surprised by the speed and quality of the feedback so far!

@Taking_the_piste, in terms of access to the skiing across the Paradiski domain, definitely not.
I usually stay in Les Coches on the other side of the VE and it's similar in regard of access to the skiing (and quiet apres).

My recollection is that it is still a fair trek up from the villards télécabine to the Belvedere piste, but that isn’t the main problem. The piste is closed and they really don’t like you skiing on the pistes after they are closed since you are likely to encounter piste bashers and it really upsets the drivers when they drive over skiers.
The simple answer is to just catch the navette back to vallandry. I don’t know the schedule for next season but last season they ran into the evening.
I’d also point out that to access the vanoise express from vallandry you need to take a lift, as you do from 1800. Vallandry is however a good choice generally.

| Does anyone have any suggestions for accommodation for myself, my son and another friend on the evening of Friday 13th of Feb, we are trying to beat the rush into the valley on Saturday the 14th but are struggling to find anywhere for that one extra evening. Could be in Bourg or 1950, we tried Basecamp and they have nothing available except the capsule rooms and those disappear the moment I mention a child as part of the party so I assume they don't want unaccompanied children in a room, which is understandable. |
Assume you are driving. Someone mentioned in another thread that Hotel le Malgovert in Seez is good value and not always booked out as no direct lift. Might be worth investigating.

@Taking_the_piste, You can do it from the top of the Villard bubble without any walking, however as @johnE, says they really don't like you being on the pistes much after the main lifts shut (in fact there are big posters on the lift pylons saying not to). The bus is a good alternative although a word of warning the busses sometimes just don't show up and there won't be any notice for that.

Am looking at P&V self catering in 1950 with Sunweb atm.
Anyone got any thoughts - both pros & cons?

@AlIre2024, There's a bar just by the bottom of the Funi, they might let ou stash them there if you befriend the bar staff and depending upon how early you are going by.

@rickboden, generally 1950 gets positive reviews. Good location, traffic free, decent apres. Bit Disney and a bit pricey.
P&V are corporate - so apartments will be very standard (which can be seen as a good or a bad thing).
Always worth checking that Sunweb is cheaper than booking with P&V direct. It can be but not always.

Did the same last year, loved it! Not a fan of the French mega resort but really enjoyed it at 1950 and the organisation with Sumweb was a really and great value. Everything is so convenient.

@rickboden, I can't comment on Sunweb, however I've been to Les Arcs quite a lot and Arc 1950 once...and loved it.
Accommodation is more like you'd find in Canada (Hardly surprising as it was designed by Intrawest, the Canadian developer).
Couldn't be more convenient for everything and has a Lift up to Arc 2000 for Pedestrians / Skiers.
However, it is more expensive.

We've been to Les Arcs several times (and are heading back next year). We usually stay in 1800, but often ski the 1950/2000 bowl and have lunch in 1950, partially because we enjoy the novelty of skiing down the street, and partially because Meli's is a firm family favourite.
It's very convenient for lifts and great skiing. Picture postcard as it's built to look alpine, rather than in the same 60s style of its neighbours.
We've skied Les Arcs at both Easter, and February half term. The snow was incredible in half term, the crowds were less fun. I've never seen so many blood wagons as I did in that one week. Usually multiple a day. The 1950/2000 bowl is popular for all the right reasons, but this does mean long lift queues, even with a fast track pass. Lunch was equally as nuts. The queue for the Aguille Rouge cable car can be 30 minutes long, and that's after you've queued for 20 minutes to get onto Varet to get you up to it.
After a couple of days of crowds up high, we found ourselves more drawn to Peisey-Vallandry, which is lower and more out of the way. There we barely queued, easily found seating and service for lunch, and the pistes were significantly quieter. 1600 was also quieter, with some lovely skiing.
Les Arcs is an incredible resort, you won't regret going, and 1950 offers true ski in/out. But pick your choice of where to spend your day on the slopes carefully.

As has been noted earlier the Villards indoor parking complex will be closed next winter. The Maison des Propriétaires newsletter has just posted this list of what may replace this parking this season.

@Taking_the_piste we are back in Les Arc at Christmas for the 4th year in a row. We have always stayed in Vallandry and really enjoy it. Great little bakery tucked away that sells superb filled baguettes which we buy in the morning and enjoy at the very top of the Trans Arc when we are bored of buying food on the slopes (my wife enjoys the food at the Derby lift).
We eat out at the restaurants on chalet host day off and the food has always been very good. We try to end the day with a hot chocolate at the Les Enfant Terrible and then have an easy ski back to Vallandry when all of the lifts have closed. It is lovely. When it snowed heavily last Christmas we still had lots of slopes to enjoy whilst they were preparing the mountain. Enjoy your trip.
