Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@johnE, I'm aware of that, but when the foehn wind comes through the valley, it can be too high for a 'normal' lift to run, hence them building a funicular. I imagine in the past, the old cable car didn't run in high winds etc.

@timlongs, seems a lot of money for no benefit. Friends of ours often stay down there and the chalets they have been in run shuttles to Vallandry in evening, so no need for lift

Plus they stay there as it’s quiet!

I guess the lobster pots are getting on and need replacing in any case

@Boris, The shuttles can be quite inconsistent, outside of school hols sometimes there is a 6pm from Vallandry and a midnight bus, not that helpful!

But yeah, quite a bit of money. I guess it was already allocated a while ago.

@timlongs, I thought the funicular was built for capacity issues. The téléphérique really couldn’t shift that many people, certainly incapable of handling a large number of commuters from bourg st Maurice. There must have been a marketing point in saying all the way to the heart of the resort by rail and sort of putting the base station of the funicular at the railway station and allowing a free trip up with a train ticket.

A télécabine from the base d’eaux vives to 1800 accompanied by a gigantic car park is an interesting idea encouraging more people to use their cars to come to the resort but sadly too far out of town for people to use it for their shopping or access to the train station. Unless of course the put a station there.

Love and use the lobster pots in the summer. Will be a shame to see them go. ( Stayed down the bottom once - quiet and peaceful just what was ordered)

Like the idea of having a permanent Rhonaz offer - and possibly a little terra-forming that road down to Solliet restaurant (which btw, was open again this winter, but hasn't, according to the owner, got plans to open this summer. Which is a real shame).

Think the new TransArc negates the need for a replacement of the Grand Reynard - its not been too tricky to get on at Mid Station this season, and certainly not as uncomfortable.

Like the idea of improving Chamotteger and increased lift capacity in the area between Peisey and1800 - there's a lot of pistes there that are barely used, and given the ever increasing numbers we're seeing in resort, be useful to spread people out.

Nonono to encouraging more cars.

Some bad news from 1800. The company who were building the seasonnaires accommodation block in 1800 have gone bust, and work has stopped. So we're left with a concrete shell.

Over to our new (right wing) mayor to solve this issue.

Injury Update: It's been 12 weeks since my accident that resulted in a season ending segmental spiral tibia fracture and a transverse fibula fracture. I have started weight-bearing on the broken leg and can hobble around crutch free (but it's not pretty...). Doing physio daily and hoping to do some walking in the pool soon to try and fix my gait.

I still have dreams/nightmares about the accident, and some days I feel like I'll never walk pain free again let alone ski...but I have to stay positive.

At 31, I think I will recover well, and will hope to have lots more skiing in my future.

I hope everyone had a great end to the season in LA/LP.

@AlIre2024,

That sounds like an absolutely awful injury but I'm sure you will recover given time.

When you are ready to think about skiing again doing investigate Ski Againers and Ski Mojo as these can really give you some assistance and protection whilst you build up your strength and get back to full form.

After 4 knee operations I wouldn't have the chance skiing the stuff I still do (e.g. North face of Bellacotte) without my againers

Keep going as hard as you can on the physio and you will get there.

@AlIre2024, broken bones take a long time to heal even after the doctors tell you can walk they will be painful for a very long time. 12 weeks is nothing. After a small break in my ankle it took 9 months to be pain free completely. But I was eventually.I have no medical qualifications but I think you are doing the right thing in working on your gate. Have someone walk behind you and comment. Try very hard not to limp.

I didn’t stay in les arcs until the end of the season but the last weeks of march and early April were brilliant. Unlike many people I actually enjoy the rock hard piste of spring mornings and as they soften through the morning.

I suspect everyone in arc 1600 knows Eric the indochinease waiter. He was 60 while we were there and we stumbled into his birthday party. I then spent sometime talking to the proprietor of labouche about her summer sailing trip around the Greek islands. And of course discussing the political situation in Benin with family who run the arvi restaurant. Arc 1600 is that kind of place. I have to confess I find the bar and restaurant people in les arcs much more friendly than those here in the uk. And they all chat to you in English.

Anyway @AlIre2024, I hope we can meet up in les arcs next season.

Just had a look at the livecams and note that it is snowing heavily in arc 2000. Rain in 1800.

I know I’m a sad character and probably won’t be back to les arcs until late June. Hopefully the snow will have gone by then.
