Looking at booking a trip to Ischgl next January, never been there before so wanted to check on the transport situation.
We'll likely fly to Munich as it's a lot cheaper than Insbruck or Zurich and then get the train. For the trains there's one that's about 90 mins after our flight is due to arrive, and then the next is 2 hours later. The later train would get to Landeck at 20:31.
So 3 questions:
1: Is 90 mins a reasonable amount of time to get from plane to the S bahn at Munich airport? Never been there before so not sure what the immigration queues are like or how far the walk is, would be arriving into T1. Even so, if the flight is delayed we would miss the train, so tempted to book the later train anyway.
2: How late do the Landeck-Ischgl busses run? At the moment they only have the summer timetable on the website, which says the last bus leaves Landeck at 19:40, so we'd miss it. But do they run later in winter? Or is the last bus at the same time?
3: If we did miss the last bus, how expensive would a taxi be from Landeck to Ischgl for 7 people with luggage (but no skis)?
TIA for any help!

@zaphod424, Zürich is far easier than Munich. Munich airport is not good for long distance train connections as you have to get an S bahn into town, you should make an s bahn within 90 mins of landing but rather iffy for onward connections. If you do decide to risk this then make sure you take the S8 not S1 (which is very slow) but even so it will take around 40 minutes to get to Hauptbahnhof. Make sure you change in Innsbruck not Kufstein (very tight connection time and long walk). Book seats as trains are always busy, better still pay for first class. Dont assume that the regional trains (which terminate in Kufstein) will run on time sadly DB is not reliable these days
Zürich far easier, regular trains from airport to Hauptbahnhof then direct train to Landeck but still need to book seats.
Munich might look cheaper but a lot of faff and a risk you will end up stuck somewhere
As @swskier, says that's the last bus summer & winter, transfer for 7 going to be €100s.
I suspect that biting the bullet of more expensive flights to Zürich will be less stressful and quite possibly overall less expensive

@zaphod424, I would speak to your accommodation provider about transport from Landeck. They may have their own minibus, or be able to recommend one locally. Or email Ischgl tourism, as they will also know.

@Scarlet, true but not many flights, would save a lot of faff though

Thanks for the advice.
I went back and looked at more flight options and it's really just the return flight that makes INN expensive, the outbound is only slightly more than flying to MUC, so the best compromise seems to be to fly to INN, and get the train from there to Ischgl which makes life much easier, and then fly home from MUC, which just means leaving early in the morning to get to the airport on time, but we wouldn't be skiing that day anyway.

@zaphod424, If you are keen on saving money a single ticket booked on the VVT (Tirol public transport) will cover you on both bus & train from Ischgl to Kufstein (add a few Euros to book a seat on the train). Then buy a Bayern ticket (think you can buy for 7) from Kufstein to Munich airport.

@zaphod424, and on the same lines, you can also book one ticket through from Innsbruck airport to Ischgl, covering both buses and the train. Should about about €21/pp.

Another option is that ÖBB have a group ticket option, but you need to contact them to buy a ticket for a group of that size (unless you split the party size into smaller tickets). This would be for the train only and in Austria only though, so may not actually be worthwhile once you account for the bus tickets on top. @Scarlet, I think €21 is the maximum price for any single journey ticket in Tirol, St Anton to Kufstein is the same price

 You know it makes sense.

@munich_irish, Gotcha. But if you don't book the ticket all the way through, it will cost more than that because each journey leg will be charged separately. But I don't need to tell you that!

Our accomodation provider in Ischgl will give us the 'Guest card', which I read gives you free use of the bus from Landeck to Ischgl, so was just going to book the tickets from Innsbruck airport to Landeck (bus and train), and then use the guest card for the bus to the resort. So just to check, I am right in saying that the guest card lets you use the bus for free?
Same for the return, but booking the train from Landeck to MUC airport, which seems to only be €17.50 for an advance, inflexible ticket. But an inflexible ticket is fine for the return as we'll know exactly what train we'll get. The train times and prices were based on a december date, as OBB haven't loaded the timetable or pricing for January yet, but surely the prices will be the same, or at least very similar, so long as we book as soon as they're released to get the cheapest fare.

@Dave of the Marmottes is correct, the guest card is for people staying, not just booked to stay in Ischgl and as such something you get when you check in.
I've done a few Ischgl trips where one guy's not been able to get the full week off so has flown/made his own way from Innsbruck. He wasn't willing to wait for the bus airport to rail station though and jumped in a taxi. Forget the number but wasn't expensive - and even cheaper if shared/split by a few of you.
I think he'd take the first flight of the day out of London - and we'd ski back to town to meet him for lunch.

I read somewhere that the guest card can be obtained digitally from the accomodation provider before arrival, not sure how reliable that is, but that's how I'd assumed we'd be able to get the card before arriving, so as to use the bus for free.
One other question I had was how much should I expect to pay for ski hire in Ischgl. From what I've read it sounds like a bit of a cartel resort like St Anton, but does anyone have a datapoint of prices to hire skis and boots for 6 days from last year? The ski hire places don't seem to have opened for 2025-26 bookings yet, so don't have prices quoted. Trying to get an estimate of the total cost to give to the rest of the group, some of us do have our own boots, so just need to hire skis, but others will need to hire both.
Aware that Ischgl isn't exactly the cheapest of places, but it's somewhere I and the others in the group would like to go, and so trying to see where we can save money (eg on the flights) to make up for the higher cost of other things.

Might be an option if you're at the Madaline end of accommodation. Everywhere we've used is still pen and paper/physical keys
