Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Second hand bindings

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
My daughter is now learning snowboarding (and eldest is going back yo carry on). We have a hand me down board from another snowhead which is about to get some use but the binding size is small and bit too small for their size 6 boots.

I have sewn a pair of second hand bindings on skibay relatively local which ad M/S.

They have said I can go over and try boots with them.... but I don't know what I am looking at

What do I need to look out for? How do I check if size? How do I make sure they are safe?

How do you know the existing binding is too small? - you look for not that.

Basically the boot fits comfortably in the frame and plenty of length on the straps, plus not too much toe overhang.

As for safety, just check frame and highback for cracks and no screws missing etc. Snowboard bindings fall apart with use anyway. Always carry some duct tape to get you home.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The instructor at the dry ski slope said they were. Although they can just work he said could do with a size up. When I asked Keira if she can use like that for a whole she said she finds it very challenging to do up and release due to the sizing.

Thanks for the guidance.

@NickyJ, Cracks, and whiteish areas which may indicate stress points in the plastic - like you get when you've bent something back and forth too much. Particularly check where the forward lean adjuster is and this can be a failure point.

Ratchets should engage and release cleanly, and once engaged should hold firmly. Check the teeth on the mounting disc are not all chewed up or excessively worn and giving play. Wear on the padding and ladders (although most are easily replaced or adjusted if they are showing wear). Obviously if this is eBay there's not really much you can do to check this stuff...

Size-wise, most bindings go S/M or M/L with the cross over point commonly being about size 8 or 9, but the size is only a guideline, if the boots got a bit more bulk to it or is wider then you may need that bigger size.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Richard_Sideways, thankyou. This is a relatively local Facebook skibay person so I can look in person. Just need a clue as to what to be looking for.

I will print out yours and Dave's list as a crib sheet Smile

What board do you have ..4x4 bolt pattern or burton 3D bolt pattern
What brand and model bindings are they for sale
Binding brands can have only 2 sizes but generally 3 or 4 sizes

Is it a burton board with 3D bolt pattern
If not it probably has std 4x4 bolt pattern .

You need bindings with discs/screws to fit the boards bolt pattern and the right binding size to fit your boot size.

The instructor may not know or want to know...your bindings may be able to be "adjusted in strap lenght" if she was able to actually get the boots in the bindings and ride this will be more likely the senario..
This may mean removing the bindings as strap adjustment can be in two areas ie. forward aft positions and in lenght

Many people oversize bindings not just boots you need to look at both in depth .
Chancers are ....shes already in oversized boots and could end up in oversized bindings its not uncommon at all .

what board do you have, and the size of the boots and the bindings which are now in the set, are necessary to find if you have to buy new or not.
