 Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi All,
I'm looking at ski lessons for my son next year, he'll be 5 and has a couple of weeks skiing in him already with a reasonable snowplough turn on greens / blues.
I'm considering the BASS ski school in Chatel for the small group size of 4 kids (Polar Bear level). Anyone got any recent experience / reviews / thoughts? BASS seem to get great reviews in many places but the tripadvisor for the Chatel says some worrying things, although some of the comments are quite old.
Would appreciate any more recent experiences, particularly with younger kids.
Thanks!

I can't answer your specific question, no personal recent experience.
But. I did some of my BASI training with the both in Châtel and les Gets. so know quite a few of the instructors/trainers, albeit some years ago now. (Looking at the Châtel staff it's only the owner Peter who I've actually trained with.) I've always been very impressed with the whole ethos as well as the individual instructors, and certainly when I've seen them out on the mountain they always look to be as well organised as I'd expect, particularly when it comes to groups of younger kids, in contrast to the ESF "follow me" groups I still see.
I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

My experience with BASS ( adults and kids) is all good but not recent and not Chatel. Those reviews would worry me too, though I'd always be wary of a mother who was hanging round the bottom of a chairlift second guessing the instructor! I think you have to dump kids and clear off! I

I’ve never booked kids’ lessons with them but for privates years ago I was perfectly happy.
I also know and like very much various instructors at Peak Snowsports in Chatel/Morzine and would happily entrust my kids!
I suspect these incidents do happen sometimes and generally things get sorted out somehow with minimal fuss when parents are not observing closely! It can’t be easy to have a group of 6+ 4/5 year olds.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I'm afraid my experience is a bit old -probably talking 5-6 years ago - but I was not impressed. Kids abandoned on chairlifts a couple of times, left behind on the slopes, left behind at the bottom of the lifts during a very busy half term. No bibs worn by the kids and very little enthusiasm shown by the instructor. My kids still remember it now but for all the wrong reasons! For the record I am not one of the Tripadvisor reviewers but the reviews do check out. It may have improved since then but I wouldn't personally consider booking with them again.

Are you definitely going to Chatel? Might be better kids ski lesson options elsewhere

Thanks for all the replies, really appreciate it. We're tied to Chatel for at least next year. Family reasons mean we've been for many years.
