 Poster: A snowHead

So, during my regular daydreaming/idle browsing of holiday prices for the coming season, I noticed something that initially appears to make no sense: The 2nd week of Feb (when France Zone A, some Germans, the Danes, some Poles, some Czechs and the Swiss are all on holiday) is way cheaper that the previous week (when no French, Danish or Swiss schools are on holiday). At the surface level this seems to defy logic. There must be a reaosn. Does anyone know what it is?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Wouldn't the crowds coming to see the Olympics push up prices, rather than reduce them?

You would think so, but if you wanted a skiing holiday you wouldn't go to where the Olympics were being held. For the Paris games, weren't visitor numbers down on a usual summer.

Olympics = increased accommodation prices + deserted slopes

@greengriff, Just to be clear you are saying that week of 7th to 14th Feb is a lot cheaper than 31st Jan to 7th Feb?
And this is with TO's?
I just checked Belambra Club Panorama for 2 in Flaine with Crystal
w/c 31/01 - £1378 pp
w/c 07/02 - £1390 pp
w/c 14/02 - £2213 pp
w/c 21/02 - £1666 pp

When I was looking two weeks ago, the 31st of January (in Italy) was cheaper than the week before (24th) ??

Is it because if you do 2 (or more) trips and are going on a family trip in the peak week you generally won't go the week immediately before but you may go any of the weeks before that?

If you mean through UK based TOs, I imagine a week that’s likely quieter on the slopes being more popular, therefore early booking demand could be higher.
The 2nd of those February weeks, with several mainland European countries having school holidays, would almost certainly be more crowded.
Higher demand = higher price?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Australia / New Zeland end of year term?

I’ve been keeping a log of occupancy in Val d’Isere over the past few years and my stats agree that the 2nd week in Feb (8 Feb to 15 Feb ) was quieter than the the previous 2 weeks.
Jan 2025
W/C 04 Jan 79% (this felt far busier)
W/C 11 Jan 70%
W/C 18 Jan 81%
W/C 25 Jan 89%
W/C 01 Feb 83%
W/C 08 Feb 81%
These stats are taken from bookable beds in resort so don’t take into account owners that use their own properties.
Usually we find a lot of Swedes and Danish Uni ski trips the 2nd half of January and 1st week Feb but not a real problem as a
large portion of them don’t ski and are just there for the apres.
We normally go back to the UK (or somewhere warmer) in early February to avoid school holidays but season 2026 we’ll wait and leave around 12 Feb for a few weeks before returning early March when the Paris holidays are over.
